Error when trying to connect to network drive

Hi,

Getting an error when trying to connect to a network drive 'An error occured while re-connecting.No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept'

Now this has been setup with a local folder on the server shared and is being mapped to 20 people on the network.
I looked under advanced permissions and can see max allowed connections set to 20, there are 19 people in the company but the problem lies that some bring in their laptops and attempt to connect to to the existing shares as well which is obviously causing problems as I can only allow max '20' connections to this mapped folder.

Is there any fix that will allow Win 7 Pro 64 I can enter in the registry to allow more connections?

What server os are you using? That would help determining what you will need to do.

In other words your not using a real server? like windows server 2003 or 2008?

I will try to look up using win7 pro as a shared server.

Simple answer is NO.
Lucky you are running Win 7. XP only allowed 5 connections IIRC.

You will need a server OS if you want more then what you now have.

That is correct Rich,
Not actually using a real server but win 7 pro 64 on a server.
I know by default the limit is 20 but surely there has to be a fix one can set in the registry to up it?

but as there was a registry fix with xp in the past would you happen to know of a reg fix with win7 to up it?

henc why I have turned to this awesome forum.

I was aware of the 20 connection limit (as stated in the liscence agreement section 3B to be prosise i think?)and didn't think it would pose as a problem as there was a user limit of 19,
obviously not thinking through that users wanted to bring in laptops as well as work on their desktops that kind of upped the connection limit.
Situation I am in is either to find a sollution (Fix) or sell them more expensive OS that will cater for an additional roughly 5 extra users.
That will mean a lot of time to re-install our applications etc which is ideally what I would like to avoid.

If anyone else knows of a fix your help would be greatly appreciated.

I have 15 computers connecting to the Windows 7 workstation yet I experienced the error message: 'An error occured while re-connecting.No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept'

I have been reading about the limitation and learning that there is no way around the 20 limitation. I am also seeing that an external hard drive attached to the workstation is also limited to 20.

Question regarding the limit of 20 - are we talking about simultaneous 20 users accessing the file folder and the sub folders? Or are we talking about 20 mapped computers?
