esata drive not shown in windows.

Ok i have a Seagate freeagent pro 500g external HDD. Was running usb but new MB has esata so i wanted to give it a go. Well not so easy as i thought.

If esata drive is hooked to port when computer loads ,Bios sees the drive but wont get past the windows load screen.

Unpluged from port and windows loads fine. So i plug it in and windows makes the normal noise but nuthing shows up. Wait 7 mins a drive apears but will always cause page to stop responding.

Usb still works fine jus rather esata due to larg files

Ok jus I new to seven so didn't know bout this feature.... At the bottom right control panel I have safly remove hardware. The drive is listed there when I plug it in. Just under properties it dosent have n details listed but the name of drive. Dosent show size or ne thing. Tries the driver but option to update is not selectable. If I try to explore it it will jus lock up computer.

turn off ACHI and use IDE make sure in your bios to set SATA device priority to your main OS drive that should solve your problem

Ok so in bios set main HD to IDE mode. Srry if I'm lost the move from old IDE computers to sata has me confused

I have a similar problem. I'm using the Thermaltake blacX and I can get it to work in USB mode but not in eSATA mode. Windows won't boot with it hooked up, and windows barely pays attention to it when turned on. (tries to load drivers but fails).

Please help, this is annoying the crap out of me!

Marvell controllers are prone to this ... I remember this issue was widespread on the Asus P6T deluxe. Which motherboard do you have?

In the BIOS, is "OnChip SATA Type" set to AHCI and
"OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type" set to As SATA Type?

Hi Foros,

Can you check your Integrated Peripherals menu in the Award BIOS? Check the settings for eSATA there.

I have changed all IDE values to AHCI in the BIOS and the problem persists.

The drive is not shown although there was a day it was fully functional. With USB connection works perfectly.

I have made some inquiries and probably the problem has to be with ICH9 and SATA 3.0 speeds.

I will change enclosure to SATA 1.5 putting a jumper on disk and try what happens

Nothing, chime sounds when drive is connected but disk management shows no disc

Foros, what kind of device are you trying to hook up? You should start your own thread.

The FreeAgent pro Esata didn't work very well in my experience. I could only get 45 MB/s and a 22ms access out of it averages with the eSATA. Hardly worth it. All indications are it is limited by the eSATA on the drive end. The connector on the drive is not very good, some eSATA cables won't fit in all of the way. Check that your ESATA cable is inserted al of the way into the Freeagent.
