Ethernet cable not detected!!

Hey everyone,

Since I'm on a campus, I'd like to download shit with a real nice speed, but the only problem is, when I connect my ehternet cable, it won't connect or something. If I go to the adapter settings, it says that the wireless network connection is fine, but the local area connection has no network cable (but in fact it is plugged in in the right way etc.)... So, I don't know if I need to update my drivers? And if yes, I don't really know how, so I hope anyone can help me...

If I need to post any screenshots or anything, let me know..

(Oh maybe an additional 'problem' , when I go to cmd and type ipconfig /all, I keep getting those messages "media disconnected" don't know if that's a problem or anything? maybe there's a simple solution )

1 Have you tried the Wire in another computer.
2 Is your Lan Disabled. Goto start and type view network, select "view network Connections"
3 Has it worked before.

1. Yes, but my laptop just gives the same error.. (But the cable did work at a friend's computer tho)
2. No, Lan is not disabled.. just has the red cross and says 'cable not detected'
3. Yes, at another friend's house I plugged in a diff cable and it worked.

Plug the cable into a different port on the router/modem. Or try a different cable.

Hmm, the trouble is 1. I have no router, I'm on campus network.. 2. I don't have another cable, lol.. I just got it from a friend, who has just used it, and it worked... :$

So is it just a connection straight out of the wall 1 port (ethernet)?

Uhhhm, there are two different ports.. next to each other.. the guy who just gave me the cable said to me; use the left port, the right one didn't work quite well for me..
I've tried both, but doesn't make any difference so far..

Can you take the laptop across the hall or something and test it in another ethernet port just to see if it your room that is bad.

Well, it's over 12pm now, and I'm new so don't really know any people here yet .. :$ lol.. So for now, I can't..

It could be that your ethernet port is broken, the schools is or the cable just went bad...So until you can test it thats pretty much all we can do...

You can't tell me which driver I should install for my adapter?
(and if yes; I have no clue how to find which one I have.. @ the list of adapters, it says nforce 10 / 100 / 1000 mbps, but is that 'the one I have'?)

Realtek RTL8201CL LAN controller is what I'm getting for your mobo but download this and run it please so we can make sure:

the first one is of the Lan, the second of the wireless (which keeps ****in' with me by the way, downloading with 1MB/s, downloading with 15kb/s .. 0.o.. (that's why I got the cable, lol))..

You need to enable the network adapter go into network and sharing center in control panel and select manage change adapter settings and highlight the adapter and right click then enable it, then disable your wireless the same way. Then your ethernet cable should work.

Lol that's the first thing I did, sorry ... still can't say wether or not I should download new network drivers maybe? ..

It's worth a shot go to nvidia's site and type in the info for your motherboard and all that and install them..

Okay maybe u now think im a total 100% noob, but I can't really find where to download the ethernet drivers... :$

NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.56 WHQL

Not a problem just install the ethernet when you run the package...
