anyone know why I am loosing my USB ports. I restarted, before that I tried to do the "safely remove hardware" command, but It kept telling me LaCie was in use. But I didn't have anything open, Not as far as I could tell.
so I got tired of it and just shut the power.
Made the "doorbell sound"
went to restart, I had no mouse. Tried restart again, still no mouse, wireless or wired.
So l un pluged my keyboard (it was still working) and went to device manager,
and of course had about 4 or 5 flags beside the USB lines.
remover them/check for new hardware, they reinstalled, all is working now.
But do you think just shutting off the LaCie is what caused the USB ports loss?
This thing is driving me nuts, I'm ready to throw it out the window, and go back to XP.
I set the properties for the external to faster performance, disable the Quick Removal of USB Devices/enable Write Caching, So I have to use "safely remove hardware".
But it kept giving me the "it was being used" error, try latter.
I finally got it to tell me it was safe to remove, and shut it off, but every time I restart , it knocks out several of my USB ports.
I am beginning to wonder if this ext. HD is just not compatible with my system.
Thanks,
Tony
