Every Shutdown now triggers a restart

I have searched this forum before posting this question and have tried all the options: returning the BIOS to defaults, checking the power options, looking at regedit, msconfig, what the shutdown button does, etc and nothing has worked. It worked fine until two days ago. I didn't add any devices or new software. Any help appreciated! thx

I have tried a system restore to 9/6 but it didn't help. Also, I have started in Safe mode
but the problem exists then too.

Can you try to run in cmd (perhaps Win+R works too):

shutdown /s

Though I am not sure why restore didn't help.

Maybe some hardware fault. Can you try removing front panel connections and start like that? You will have to use a screwdriver to short circuit the power on pins.

So I tried the cmd line shutdown /s and it shutdown and restarted just like the button.

I read thru the page sent, thank you, but did not find a pending.xml file. I did however in that folder:
C:\Windows\winsxs\ find many files all dates 9/10/15 in a folder named Temp and then a folder under that named PendingRenames. All the files there were dated 9/10/15. I did try to delete them but it said I needed permission. ?? I am the administrator on my sign on. Any help with all this? thx

Try not to delete them on your own, may make your system unbootable. Try http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/122262-windows-7-sp1-disk-cleanup-tool.html first. (Then if not solved, ask a knowledgeable person.) make sure you click "Clean up system files" and then you can safely delete all found.

thank you GoKay. I am running the Clean up System files. Just to clarify, after I run that can I then delete the files I found in the Temp-PendingRenames folder? It just seems odd to me that all those files are the date that my shutdown problems began occurring. thx

I went ahead and deleted the files in PendingRenames. I shutdown and it restarted as it has been doing BUT a message came on the screen that Windows was updating. First time I had seen that. I let it go and the update finished. Then I shutdown and it restarted and I got another update message so I let that go. After that update it restarted and the desktop and internet connection came up so fast, it is usually VERY slow. So, I haven't solved my restart problem but maybe something was fixed/updated. Is this any help to anyone as far as my restart issue?
I also saw that the TEMP folder in my System32 file was gone.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Even after removing the older CBS Per. files in the CBS folder the compressed (zip) size is 18MG. I will attach the WindowsUpdate.log.

One time my system shutdown and did not restart but now it is doing it all again. I have attached a new WindowsUpdate log in zip file. I looked thru the 9/11 and 12 dates but it doesn't help me. Thanks for any help.
