As I've mentioned in the topic name, whole Win7 freezes after opening an application, or trying to (un)install something... After approx 5-10 seconds everything works as normal but that lag is annoying... I'using Norton Internet Security 2013 for a few weeks, and only couple of days has this been going on, so I doubt that it's real time scanner is the cause...
But I'll let you guys and girls try to figure out what is the culprit, so recommend any type of scans and I'll post all the logs that you need :D

Cheers!

Hey mate, unfortunately I've never been in safe mode, because everything is working fine in normal environment except that annoying lag when starting apps... If I need to go to safe mode, what type of tests/scans do you recommend me to do, or are there some other scans I can do in normal mode Win7?

Cheers

Hey Brink, thanks for the suggestion, but this app-opening lag happens even when actively using my PC (surfing, or playing a game) so my harddisk is not idle.. Any other tips/tricks up your sleeve?

Cheers

Any application that I want to run to install/uninstall, but when opening already installed ones (eg. skype, potplayer, foxit reader...) everything is as is should be after I did 'chkdsk' and 'sfc' commands in elevated command prompt. So I guess one part of the problem is solved for me, but this one still persists...
Thanks for your interest Proudtobegreek :D

Cheers

Egoran,

As a test, temporarily uninstall Norton completely to see if the issue remains afterwards.

Norton seems to be the problem. Not every software is meant to be compatible with every machine. As Brink said, uninstall Norton and test and post back.

Ok, I'll try to uninstall Norton, but I'll need an alternative Internet suite, or some sort of security combo during that time... Any suggestions? I'll trial it out for a couple of days so it doesn't has to be a free solution, just a good and reliable one

Cheers

I used to have MSE but while trusting that piece of garbage my PC got infected to that extent that I've had to format and reinstall everything, so MSE is a no go for me... I'll stick to commercial internet security solutions.. But thank again for the suggestion, but I'd like another one :) (used to have Kaspersky but that one slowed everything waaaaaaaaay to much, resource hog)
I'll try out some other suites and see which one doesn't slows down my pc

Cheers

All right,if you had troubles with MSE,fair enough, but I must say, never heard anyone complaining about it around here.Try ESET,I tested its vulnerability through Gibson Research and it stated amazingly protected.

You could try ESET Smart Security. Also, a completely free Internet Security: Comodo Internet Security

MSE doesn't always work well coz it doesn't have the ability to do heuristic scanning. It just finds malware using its definitions, which is not a very good solution. :sarc:
