Hi

So I've been a Seven use for a few years now I regularly reformat my system, not always needed but I like a fresh start every 2 or 3 months, anyway since my last format (I tried Win 10, Nope) I've noticed when I'm starting or rebooting my PC I get my MoBo info and then the Windows Logo comes and goes, then it just goes off for a few seconds I say the screen goes blank, this isn't totally true, it goes to the "No Signal" screen for I guess about 15 or 20 seconds and after that it gets to my log on screen.
Very strange as has never happened before I used to get great boot times but this has killed that, I know its not a huge issue but I'd really like to get it solved and have my quick booting PC again!

I have checked boot sequence is correct but thats about as far as I can go on my own lol, I guessing it may be something to do with the Onboard Graphics in the 4790k & my GTX 970 maybe something doesnt like something else (tech speak) but I have no idea how I would proceed with troubleshooting and getting if fixed!

Any light shed on this would be great,

Many thanks for reading :)

It seems to be fairly normal for there to be a short loss of video just after the Windows logo, but 15 to 20 seconds, and the "No signal" message seems a bit odd.

If I recall correctly, that little space is when the video and other drivers are loading and/or finalizing their setup, and the computer is deciding what screen to use. I have read that the GPU actually scans on of its ports on startup, and that is what causes the screen to go blank for that short period, as the GPU is sorting out which screen to use for the primary monitor. It doesn't matter how many screens you have, it still goes through the check.

I would start troubleshooting by making sure that all of your drivers are installed and up to date. Check your Device Manager screen to see if there are any yellow triangles. Those might be slowing down your boot.

If those check out, we can move on to the Event Logs.

Hi

Thanks for replying :)

Ok so I checked all drivers with the Gigabyte updater for my board updated any that needed it aside from Realtek HD Audio (had issues with it before and don't use it anymore) the Nvidia drivers should be fine as I only reformatted an couple of days ago and I got everything from their website.
I did have a Yellow Triangle in the Device manager (SM Bus Controller), but after updating all my drivers that has disappeared!

Rebooted a couple of times to see if it was still happening and it's still doing the same thing! I counted 18 seconds on first reboot & 13 on second reboot.

Hope that is all helpful to finding the Issue

Can you post a screenshot of your startup items, please?

Run "msconfig" (no quotes) in the search bar in the start menu and select "Startup" items. Take a screen shot of that and let us have a look.

I agree with Mellon Head that there is a pause after the Windows Logo screen. I have a SSD so mine boots faster. How long does it take for your complete boot from the time the first screen comes on until you see the desktop? == Do you have an SSD?

Hi I'll post my start-up when I get home from work.

Yeah I have a SSD installed! Well it used to boot very quickly and still does in a way, but now there is a long pause with "no signal" in the middle of the boot. It used to do it exactly the same but without this 15sec spent on that screen.
If it had always done it I'd not be bothered lol, but as its only since the last format it's really annoying me to know whats different this time around!

When I get home I'll send a screen of my start-up and do a low res video on my phone of the boot process from start to finish to see if it help figure it out!

Ok here we go :) Even on my phones 480p setting the video came out too big to upload in one piece so I lowered the bitrate to get it under 8mb and zipped it :)

As you can see the Windows Logo loads at about 12seconds then I get a blank screen for a couple of seconds, the the TV notices there is nothing there and goes to "No Signal".

Its really weird as before this format it didn't do it and I try to do everything the same each time ... so... just annoying lol.

Thanks to you guys for trying to help,

Yea, that is weird and I have no idea what could cause it. Since you don't mind doing a clean install, I would say do another one and see what happens.

@ 557953. This problem is probably caused by Delayed Launcher, which is ticked in your Start Up tab, as shown in your Post #8.

Refer to this website for an explanation.

Intel Delayed Launcher - Microsoft OS Forum - Software & Operating Systems - Dell Community

You can try unticking it in the Start Up tab & then reboot & see if that overcomes the problem. As the website mentions it does help with a possible virus or malware infection prevention, but that decision is up to you.

Many thanks for checking the thread tho and offering help :)

Hope double posting is ok here!!

Ok well I disabled that service, and no change I'm sorry to say! I actually felt that would work! So thanks again for your suggestion :)

Am I right in thinking, that it's got to be searching for something? Not sure what, but there must be something it needs to look for thats not set up correctly that is causing the delay, or am I way off??

Lookin at your system specs, and thinking out loud
Your showing Dual monitors, >> sometimes <<
Do you get the delay with only 1 "live" or both, either way it could be your monitor settings within either the Graphics GUI, or that the monitor is in standy mode.
Something to check anyway.

Hi Roy

Well honestly I have not yet used the 2nd monitor since my previous install, as in a couple of weeks ago now so well before I started having this issue. The second monitor is not something I use often jsut when on a long job so to speak I'll have a movie or something on the other screen!

I'm kinda thinking that it must be something in the Graphics or Display area tho, but I'm guessing blind there but don't know what else could be causing it....

______________________________________________________________________________________

What if I was to disable the 4790k's onboard Graphics and just leave the GTX970 active, could it be that they are wrestling for control??? I imagine the problem would be a lot more common if that was the case? Or visa versa disable the Nvidia display drivers and run on Intel's....... Maybe that would make my 970 pointless....Grrr what a headache!

Just as a further thought. Are both your monitors connected to GTX970 card & what sort of connections are you using, such as DVI, VGA or HDMI.

Hi, Yes indeed my monitor is connected to the 970 via HDMI, if I use the second monitor then I plug it into the DVI port. The audio always comes thru a soundbar connected to main monitor so there is no need for audio on the 2nd screen.

Crossing finger's :)

Not sure if you said this in the post above, but do away with the dual monitor and setup things as if you only had one. See what happens.

Hi bigmck,

Unfortunately that is what I have already done, I haven used/plugged in the second monitor for a little while now, certainly not on this install. So doesn't seem to be related to that, which is a shame as would be an easy fix!
