I don't understand.
I open up word 2010 (or any office program) and it says its unlicensed so it opens up a window and tells me to enter my key in. This is a 100% legitimate key; my dad bought it from his work. Whats wrong with office?

Just a thought, did you authenticate the license with microsoft by registering?

Home use versions typically require the manual entry of a license key during installation. If yours did not, that could be part of the problem.

I'm running an Office 2010 ProPlus version that I acquired through my work (part of their work-at-home program) and when I went to install it, had to enter the license key they emailed me.

If it's a version that your dad USES at work, it may not work at home -- especially if it's a volume license version that needs to connect to a KMS server that your dad's work uses.

I meant that his work gives him a discount on buying it; its not from his work though.
When i installed office i entered the key.Now it just pops up EVERY time i open office.

Hi there
OK after you've entered the key try and start any office application.

It should issue a popup requesting you to activate it.

If it doesn't - something screwy here -- try re-installing the whole thing again.

The Use at Home programs don't need to connect to a Work licensing server -- how could they when the majority of home users can't or aren't allowed to use a work vpn for remote working. Simple activation is all that is required normally in these Work at home products. The product can be installed on your OWN PC -- that's why it's called a Work at home product --- one would assume if you are using a Work PC office is already installed on it so again the whole program is DESIGNED to be used on HOME computers.

I've run office Enterprise 2007 for ages via this type of program on a home computer. (I've now upgraded to 2010 but 2007 is fine).

Cheers
jimbo

OK, so next time you launch an Office component, go into Help and look at the screen. Look on the right side of the screen. It will probably not say "Product Activated" -- in which case, as jimbo45 indicated, you need to activate it. Once you do that, you should not get the activation prompts anymore.
