Pictures have to 'load' everytime I open up My Pictures

As soon as I click 'Pictures' to open up my pictures folder, it'll take about 5 seconds for everything load completely. It'll start with a full screen of pictures, then they'll start stacking and stacking [you can see the scroll bar getting smaller an smaller], and lastly all of my folders will then load an pop up an it'll be done. Is there any way to change this so that the Pictures app doesn't have to load each time I open it up? Also would there be any disadvantages of that if it can be done?

In Vista, I had a folder that contained about 20,000 pictures or so - and when I double clicked to open up one there would be a lengthy delay, about 3-4 seconds to pop up. With Windows 7 that same folder opens up a picture in an instant double click, which is awesome so I don't wanna do anything that could possibly change that quickness.

So you are happy that win 7 does it faster, and your question is?

Read my question again. In my 2nd paragraph I stated that one of the folders in 'my pictures' holds about 20,000 pictures - I have about 50+ folders in 'my pictures'. I was just stating that that specific folder in Vista would take 3 to 4 seconds to pull up a picture from that folder - 7 does not do this. However, every time I click 'my pictures', the whole library reloads itself (like I stated in my 1st paragraph) - Vista did not do this.

Ugh, this is getting SO annoying. If I click into a folder under 'Pictures' and then hit the back arrow to go back into 'Pictures' - it reloads the whole app all over again. There has to be a fix for this.

EDIT: Found the problem, and don't understand why this is even a problem. I right clicked my 'Pictures' folder - and changed 'Optimize This Library For' from Pictures to Videos and now every folder and picture is fully loaded up as soon as I click my 'Pictures' folder - as well as all of the sub folders. Anyone know why this is? And does anybody suggest another fix than what I've done, or?

Alright this is still a problem, it began doing the long load-up once again even under 'optimize for videos'. It's quick when I 'optimize for documents' but then everything is small because that's how I have my Documents setup [really small icons]. I can't change the view in the Pictures to Large Icons because it changes the Documents to large icons as well. I don't understand why it does this. My Music folder is 3 times larger than my pictures folder, and when I open up my Music folder everything loads up in a click, no green loading at all - but EVERY time I open up Pictures the green bar loads, EVEN when I go to save a picture an the mini box pops up it does the green load. HELP.

Wouldn't happen to use any utilities that delete the thumbnail cache would you? If so that would be the cause of it as the cache will have to be rebuilt every time after it has been deleted.

I'm pretty sure I'm not using any utilities of that sort. I went ahead and rebuilt the icon cache and then cleared the thumbnails in disk cleanup, but it didn't do a thing. It literally loads with everything I do, I'll click into a folder that's in Pictures and then hit back and it'll do the whole green reload thing. I'm talking to a buddy of mine right now and it does the same thing on his system too.

Can you change the format to "list" instead of small icons? Look into your folder options also.

What is SuperFetch?

And I'm not sure what happened, but everything seems to be fine now. Maybe my system just needed time to 'learn' what I wanted, or something? Reason I say this is because 1) now my 'pictures' are in Large Icons like I set it to, and the mini box when I right click/save a picture is listed as Medium Icons like I set it to - every time before, they would both change when I'd set one of them. I'm not sure this has anything to do with anything but my pictures don't go through the whole loading process every time I open up the folder anymore, I haven't changed any settings so I don't really understand what happened.

So are you recommending keeping it enabled, or disabling it?

It should be enabled (automatic) - unless you are on a G2 SSD.
