Excel does not show gridlines on both monitors in a dual monitor setup

Interesting problem,

I have a AMD Radeon HD 6300 series adapter, running windows 7 x64. I have a dual monitor setup, the same monitor on each port an Acer S230hl. One port is an HDMI the other is a VGA. the issue i have is that when i have a worksheet open i can see the gridlines to the cells on the HDMI connected monitor, if i move the sheet over to the vga monitor the gridlines are so light i cannot make out the different cells. it looks like one clean sheet of white paper. i tried different contrast and brightness settings and no luck. anyone have some ideas, or maybe had the same problem and found a fix?

that won't work because the lines are there you just cannot see them. if i move an excel spreadsheet from one monitor accross to the other they disappear. if i take a screen shot and your monitor shows the sheet correctly you will be able to see the gridlines as well.

I do understand what you are saying.

But have you tried to take a screenshot? We just need to rule that out 100%.

I have had the same problem on a new computer I received form our IT dept. I have found that the connection between the computer and the monitor is where the problem is being caused. I have a HP laptop and a HP port replicator. Just as you have described above, if I open a spreadsheet and move it from the VGA and DV monitors connected to the port replicator, the gridlines appear on the DV fed monitor but not on the VGA fed monitor. If I switch the cables to the monitors so that the monitor previously fed by the VGA cable is now fed by the DV and vice versa for the other monitor, the same effect appears for the monitor fed by the VGA cable.

Furthermore, if the monitor fed by the VGA cable is fed directly from the serial port on the lap top, the grid lines appear as they should.

Conclusion, the HP port replicator and display-to-VGA converter are not working properly...
