Hi,
I am having a strange problem. Out of nowhere, whenever i download something and tries to install it...the installation goes through half way and then the setup screen vanishes and so does the .exe file. This happens randomly as in it's not specific to any one installer, some gets installed while others don't. I am using Windows 7 32bit Professional. I did a complete reinstall of windows, and it went away for some time, but today it came again :(
Any ideas?

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

What Antivirus software are you using? I've seen on many occasions that an AV will delete "suspitious" files without notification (including a .rar file for MalwareBytes ). You may want to check your Antivirus logs and Quaranteen areas.

Thanks OS,
I just checked the AV and you were spot on. All the files are there in the quarantined section. I am using Kaspersky, I wonder why is it doing it. These are all really false alarms, because I was only installing CCleaner, Firefox and some other very popular programs.

It depends on the files, some executables (that we don't mention on this site ;)) can get flagged but it's normally a false positive. You may want to check your AV settings as there could be a security setting that's set too high.

Hello!

Well, just because they left the server uninfected (because they came from servers you trust, such as the Mozilla one) doesn't actually mean that they are not infected.

If your router is infected, or some other malware is on your computer, these good programs might actually be infected by the time they arrive.

Release one of the files from Quarantine, and immediately upload it to VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner

If it comes back clean, fine, lower your settings; it it comes back as dirty, we can get a security expert to assist you.
