External crack

My laptop has developed a crack at the base of the lid due to handling..Is is safe to ignore this crack?

My eyes aren't what they used to be I wish you would have used paint and drawn an arrow to it, but the bottom line is any crack will only get larger with continued use. If it's somewhere that you feel save enough to widen it by stressing the openng I would squirt a very small amount of supper glue into it and then hold it firmly together till it sets.

I think I seee it now it's on the hinge? Then the naswer is no it's not safe, and fixing it with super glue could be a bit tricky since you wouldn't want to put so much in the crack as to have it get down into where it needs to rotate.

I can see the crack is on the lid hinge.

+1 Super glue. But don't drown it. You want the hinge to work after the crack is sealed.

Yes it will!! you need to fix it!!

I am a bit scared to apply glue...As it might cause some other complication..

Well if you call having to prop up your diaply to be able to keep it aligned with the other side a effect then yes.

Lets put it this way it couldn't be in a worse place for a lptop If it cracks all the way through it may still hold the display in place but it won't want to stay open and if it were to break completely off then one side would stop at any given point and the other would need something behid it to get it to stay where you want it to stop.

Put tape around the crack before you apply the glue, remove surplus glue with a damp cloth before it goes off!! It will end up a lot worse if you don't do it!!

Take a single edge razor blade and insert just the very tip, just enough to open the crack the tiniest bit then squeeze a very small drop into the opening.
apply pressure to hold them together for a few seconds like 30 then carefully move the lid ope and shut to make sure it only has stayed in the crack and you didn't squeeze enough into the opening that it dripped onto the post that allows it to open and close.

It sounds tricky but it's not that really a big deal use a very small sewing needle to get the smallest opening in the tube of super glue and before you apply it try squeezing a few drops onto another throw away surface to get a feel for how much is going to come out.
Left un-repaired it will eventually need replacement

Then by following my previous driection will work in you favor open up the very end with a single edge razor blade jut the corner or and exacto knife and apply the glue.

Trust me it's not completely crcked but well on it's way and will eventually be if you don't take some measures to stop it's growth.

Depends on what glue you use? Just leave the lid open 24hr after you have done it!! Should be ok!!

If you have applied it correctly super glue only takes a little while to dry. So as apprehensive as you are about fixing it I would let it dry at least an 1/2 hour or more. Just remeber you can't move the top or cause it to try and reopen while it's trying to dry.

I applied the glue and I noticed that during opening of lid there is no expansion of the crack.Hence I come to conclusion it is fixed..
