External drive not working after format

Hi guys, I have a Buffalo HD-LB3 3TB external harddrive. My main goal is to get it to work with my xbox 360. I was able to get it to work on my blueray player but it is not found by my Xbox. I have formatted it to Fat32 and I have partitioned it into two pieces, 1.8 TB and 1.1 TB. Still nothing is working. Please help me, thank you for your time!

I am not sure, this is my first time doing any sort of formatting. Would you mind explaining how to check for bad sectors. I used EaseUS partition master to change in to Fat32 so im not entirely sure. Thank you for the speedy reply.

Does it work on your computer? I have no experience with Xbox's but I would try to troubleshoot it on your PC rather than the Xbox.

XBox uses a different file syatem...

You should still be able to see it connected. Not to mention that you can use Linux to browse it.

It works perfectly fine on my windows 7 64-bit. Online I found many people who have been able to get it to work on a xbox. All they have done is format it in Fat32. Thank you for the responses.

Maybe that's why it's not working then. From what patio states that Xbox uses a different filesystem it probably shouldn't work on a PC (unless the Filesystem is supported which FAT32 is).

All i know is if you take a HDD out of an existing XBox and try to use it in a PC the drive has to be fixed so it works...
On that note i would think it has to be done in the reverse order for it to work properly...

I'm not sure. Everything I read just says to format one of the partitions as FAT32 and it should work (which you obviously did). Maybe there's something wrong with the drive, the xbox, the connection/cable, or the drive is just too big. Try another hard drive or another cable. Maybe bring yours to a friends house and try it on their xbox. I also notice that the drive you have supports USB 3.0. Check to make sure the cable you have supports USB 2.0 (because I think that's all Xbox supports).

1 Get an external hard drive with a USB 2.0 connection. You need this connection to connect the drive to the console. Most recently manufactured hard drives should have this type of USB adapter included.

2 Format the hard drive to read FAT32 files. Using a Windows PC, create an FAT32 partition on the drive and format the volume. You'll need a program like Partition Magic to do this.

3 Load all the content you want from your PC onto the external drive. This should consist of photo files, MP3s and any other files that can be read on the Xbox hard drive.

4 Remove the external hard drive from your PC. Plug it into your Xbox 360 console through the USB port.

5 Go to the Media menu on your Xbox screen. Select "Portable Device" from the menu. All the readable files saved on the external drive should be available to read on your Xbox 360.

Plug your new USB hard drive into your PC and use Partition Magic to create a FAT32 partition. The great thing about Partition Magic is that you don't have to have any serious technical knowledge. FAT32 allows your hard drive to be used by your Xbox 360.

Maybe someone with more experience with this can help you out, sorry.

This is a good link, this is what I tried the first time. Do you think if I reformatted it it could work? I mean maybe something went wrong the first time, just kinda weird how it worked on the BlueRay player. Thank you for your help!

Yah, those steps bulletng gave you are what I found, as well; can't get much more straightforward than that. Hope we hear good things from you.

Silly question, does the X-Box support a partitioned drive?
