External hard drive doesn't work with W7,64bit

I just used my external hard drive on my old Slap Top, Windows XP, 32bit, and it worked fine.....but it doesn't work on my new Vaio, Windows 7, 64bit. I'm not a PC-know-a-lot'er, so if anyone has an answer, please make it simple. In advance, thank you :)
