external monitor during setup of windows

am trying to install windows on a laptop with broken screen
it will not display on crt monitor when running setup..

how would i change this..

trying to either install vista or 7

hp dv9000 entertainment series

I believe on the dv series laptops you have to press the fn key and one of the function keys at the top that has a picture of a monitor on it for the display to route through the video out jack.

I don't think that multi monitors are supported during the Windows setup, if I were you I'd try what Maguscreed suggested, and if that didn't work, you'd have to take out the hard drive, connect it to a computer that does have a functioning screen, Install Windows, then put it back into the laptop and use it from there.

I'm able to display from the win disk with my old hp laptop but it's just generic intel display anyhow.

Interesting, it may be that the Windows 7 install doesn't support the graphics card of this particular computer fully, which is causing multi-monitor support to become unavailable.

I have the same problem while windiws xp setup..

My asus eepc netbook screen broken, when i connected to an external monitor i cannot see anything to finish all set up steps..

Is there any way to solve this problem? For example, a kind of monitor selection from boot menu..
