Hi all,
I had a problem of Windows 7 x64 Pro not seeing my 8TB Seagate USB HDD no matter what I tried, it just would not show anywhere except in "Devices and printers" and there was nothing I could do with it there!
After several weeks and hours spent on the net searching for an answer I struck the resolution by chance, because i like to fiddle about my operating system.
In case someone is still facing such a problem of external USB HDDs not being recognized and not even showing in "My Computer" or in "Disk Management" (as I had), here is what I did to resolve this problem:
1. Open "Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus Controllers",
2. Look for the USB "Mass Storage Device" and uninstall it by selecting it and hitting the "Uninstall" menu button at the top (with the red X on it),
3. Do a "Scan for hardware changes", the system will find and install the appropriate drivers and you should be able to find and use your device now.
I hope this will be of help to someone.
