Failed bootable USB creation

Hi all,

I tried to create a bootable USB using the info here: How to make a hard drive bootable? - Forums - CNET

I am now able to partially boot from the USB, but I cannot boot from the HD anymore. When I remove the USB, I get a Windows Boot Manager error that Windows failed to start. I get:

File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

I assume I did something wrong in creating the USB or somehow changed the machine so it will no longer boot from the hard drive.

A little help please...

Have you tried to run System Repair?

I'm not sure what "partially boot" means.

Yes, I have tried System Repair, but it will not run. By "partially boot" I mean I get into system Recovery Options, but it won't allow me to use them.

Are you saying you are trying to boot Windows 7 from an external usb hard drive ?

AddRAM, I found this comment from the opener:

Very likely, thread starter would like to be able to boot either from the internal hard-drive or from the usb device but not booting Windows 7 from the usb, that's my guess.

It does the same thing startup repair would do, writes the system files to C and I guess it may mark that partition Active.

PM Wolfgang the author, he`s always been helpful to me :)
