Feedback through headphones, but sound through speakers

My headphones are plugged into the headphone jack, and I hear the typical buzzing you hear when your headphones are plugged in. But no sound is coming through them, only through the speakers. I've tried disabling the speakers, which does force the sound to come through the headphones but then I can't control the volume.

What sound driver are you using, make and model? What software are you using? Is there a redirect option with in the driver software. My mobo uses VIA HD driver w/software and there's and option to redirect when headphones are plug in to front port jacks.
