Hello,

This is the current situation:

We have here various of computers running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. On one PC Windows runs inside a VirtualBox on a FreeBSD machine.

My boss wants me to replace that FreeBSD with the Windows that runs inside the VM as the main OS.

My problem is, that it is not documented which installation belongs to which product-key.

Also I have *no* access to the FreeBSD machine. (Physically yes, the machine is right in front of me, but no access to the OS to boot the VM)

To avoid that I accidentally activate Windows with any product-key than the one used in the VM, I am wondering how to figure out which product-key was used?

I thought the 'product-id' in 'system properties' was the 'product-key' and I can go through a list, but it seems to be something different.

Best regards from germany

Hallo Foobarbazqux, herzlich willkommen auf der Sieben Foren :).

If you could manage to get the Windows vm running on that FreeBSD machine, it would be very easy. Simply open an elevated command prompt and give command slmgr /dlv to open licencing information, check the partial product key and compare to your existing product keys.

If this is not possible, it's a bit more complicated: you could use the same method on all other Windows 7 machines, until you only have one product key not used by these machines. The remaining product key on your list should be the one you are looking for.

Hallo Kari,

Vielen Dank ;)

Sadly nobody knows the password to the FreeBSD machine :(

Anyway, I did it like you suggested and walked to every machine and compared the partial key with my licences. Finally I am done! :D

Thank you very much for your great help.

Best regards from germany
