File Association is missing how do I add it?

I received an email with an attachment showing as a pps extension, which is Power Point. Win Live Mail cannot open it. When I go to the file association panel, I have 3 extensions listed, to use Power Point Viewer (I do not have Office), but .pps is not one of the 3 listed ones. How do I add .pps to that list, so I van assoiciate it

It will automatically associate itself with pps files

If you already have the .pps file, right click on that then select "properties"
You should see "opens with" and a Change button
Click that button, then navigate to\select the powerpoint viewer

also tick the 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file' box, if that is what you want.

although saying that, i think that box is always ticked by default anyway - in which case, please ignore this post .

you maybe have to save one of the pps files somewhere.

then in windows explorer, navigate to the saved pps, then do the 'open with' trick.

in the future, .pps files should now be associated.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post somewhat. Right click on the file and choose "Open With". then "Choose Default Program". Then choose "Browse" and navigate to the viewer.

If you got the file you want to view in an e-mail, then you will probably have to save it to a folder first;

create a file on your desktop (any kind of file will do... a text file, for instance)

Open any Explorer window, select "Organize", then "Folder and search options"

On the "View" tab, uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

Go back to the file you created on your desktop. Rename it to anything.pps

You'll get a warning about possibly making the file unusable, ignore it.

Now you can right click the .pps file, and follow the directions in my earlier post for setting the file association.

I just used Open Office, to open the .pps and all is well. I still don't understand why when I have Powerpoint reader, it works for 3 extensions, but not .pps. Oh well Black Magic I guess.:sarc:
