Hello,
I'm looking for some kind of tool that is capable to return search results of files with the names no longer then x characters. I have hundreds of directories filled with hundreds of .txt files generated by some applet but some of them are just trash. I know that the file names are shorter than a certain number of characters. For example I'd like to find files with names shorter then 8 characters or 14 characters. Of course I can do this manually spending 2 hours daily but this is not funny. I can use tool like FileBoss but still I have to search for file with 1 letter, 2 letters, 3 letters and so on. Probably regular expression can do the thing. But maybe there is a dedicated tool to do this?

FileLocator Lite can do this. It can do searches by filename with a regular expression rather than a normal file name and its wildcards, among many other now irrelevant things.
Exactly, you write the regex for length range in the file name field, then on the options tab check the regular expression option, thus returning all files with your specific needs from the selected folder. It's also free with a paid version, but this feature is contained in the free version too.

It can be downloaded here: FileLocator Lite - Free File Searching Utility
And for the regular expression you can use, there is an example here: Regex match strings less than 150 chars in length - Stack Overflow

Another one to consider: FileSeek, free or pay-for, both work just fine.
