Hi

I have many pictures on my PC ( about 20,000 jpg files ) that I have backed up to an external hard disk and also burned on DVD.
I used beyond compare tool to compare the pictures that on my PC with the pictures that on the external drive and the DVD - all was identical.
Few days ago I have compered it again and saw that the files size is not the same  meaning both "size" and "size on disk" properties of the files on my PC is less ( in several KB ) then the files on hard disk and DVD.

I use several SW like Picasa and Photoshop but only to view the pictures not edit them so I don't know what cause this change.

Please help.

Have you used any cleaning software, run a "Disk Cleanup", defragmented, or indeed anything like that?

All these things can alter the file size on a live disk. Nothing can alter the file size on a DVD.

Mmmm. don't think so.
I have ESET Smart Security 4, can it or any Microsoft regular Win7 software updates or indexing cause it ?

When you say several KB, are you talking MB GB or just KB.

Also have you looked too see if the quantity's are the same.

Several KB is nothing. A good picture has about 1MB, so unless you lost a bunch of MBs, I would suspect that all your pics are still there. I would not worry about it.

Lots of things can cause variations of a few kbytes on a live disk. Unless any of your files are missing, I would just forget about it.

The change is about few KB for each picture and there are no lost pictures but still I would expect that any change in the size will be in the "size on disk" and not real size.

Various file sizes displayed on live disks are notoriously inaccurate, for various reasons. Unless something is missing or damaged, then there is nothing to worry about.

It was probably just a change in the metadata for the images. Happens from time to time, nothing damaging to the images.
