Hi there,

We use a particular piece of business software on a number of PCs at work but on 1 PC we get a ringing sound when entering data into a particular field. Data is entered into the field about 30 times a week and on about 4 or 5 occasions we get a ringing sound which doesn't stop unless we close down the application. When we then restart the application the resolution is all wrong and we have to reboot the PC. The supplier of the business software cannot replicate the issue although they admit there is a handful of their customers who have reported this although the ringing stops in some cases and they can continue.

Can anyone help me with ideas as to how I can track down the cause of this issue?

I have already run a windows repair during which it ran a .NET repair but it hasn't resolved the problem. We're fully up-to-date with Windows updates.

Many thanks for any advice.

It is a long shot, but once the ringing starts, you can start Process Monitor.

You can filter the data being captured to only show events from the business software. If you need help figuring out how to use/filter Process Monitor, google for videos; there are lots of them out there. Hopefully, Process Monitor will show the app of interest stuck in a loop. You can save the data and send it to the vendor of the app.

Thanks UsernameIssues,

The process monitor is shows the following each time I click on the field ...

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\CTF\KnownClasses NAME NOT FOUND

Not sure what that means but I'll send them it anyway!

Fingers crossed.
