Finger print log in

My finger print 'log in' no longer works. There is no biometrics showing in device manager and windows tells me I don't have a finger print sensor on the computer. I'm not sure how this has happened but it's been playing up for a long time. I have an HP Pavilion DV6 and HP can't help either. Can someone here give me some help
