Been running Beta 12 for a couple of days now, really stable & I noticed the less RAM usage too

Can't wait until the final is here.

Mozilla has in fact already started work on Firefox 4.0 RC, with very early Builds of the new development milestone live on the company’s FTP servers.

The manner in which they are labeled could generate some confusion, so Legnitto wanted to be extremely clear that Mozilla will not produce a Firefox 4.0 Beta 13.

“I just wanted to send a quick note clarifying again that Firefox 4 beta 12 is the last planned beta.

“It may be confusing that nightly builds after beta 12 identify themselves as version 4.0b13pre. The versioning is merely a product of automation. This DOES NOT mean we are having a beta 13,” Legnitto said.

With the RC being offered in early March 2011, I think that there’s a very good chance that Mozilla will release Firefox 4.0 Final by the end of next month, or so. It appears that it won’t be long now until users will be running Firefox 4.0.

Not true, if done properly: I have both 3.16.13 and 4.0 Beta 12 running simultaneously.

Shortcut for Beta 12 reads "Firefox..." -p "Beta 9" -no-remote . Beta 9 is the name of the Firefox profile Ive been using since Beta 9, and the -p' points to that profile. `-no-remote' is used to allow more than one profile to be active at the same time.

In fact, one should not share profiles between 4.0 and any earlier release, as the programs are quite different, and sharing can, and usually will, cause serious problems.

The only difficulty with using -no-remote that I'm aware of is that if while using the profile governed by that entry, right-clicking on a link in a web page and choosing "send link" will not work.

i think the RC1 will be out in more like 2-3 weeks based on the # of blockers left and any regressions from beta 12.

As of posting Can we ship yet? shows 3 hard blockers remain (still may go up though, depending if any major bugs are found), the RC shouldn't be too far away now

How much less RAM usage have you noticed? Because on my computer, FF4 beta 12 is still running at 100MB memory with only one tab, and can go to 200MB with 3 tabs. I have a attached a picture of my task manager.

Firefox 4.0b13pre is running at 161 MB of RAM with a single tab open on my Win 7 x64 computer according to Process Explorer.

I'm using 177 M with 4 tabs, youtube running a vid and lots of plug-ins running, including weather and personas.

I regularly run between 350 MB and 500 MB.

It used to get up to 1.2 GB in the early builds of the FF 4.0 betas.

But, then, I usually have 10 tabs on one window and three other windows going with two or three tabs each, too, on multiple monitors.

A lot of the RAM usage you see with the latest builds has to do with how much RAM is installed on your computer to begin with (and whether or not you have x64 or 32 bit) and whether or not all of your extensions (add-ons) are updated for FF4.

I think FF should be better and better when it approaches to the 4.0,
but now they did some of the minimal change in the betas,
so it might take more betas to approach to the Final build.

I'm looking forward to the 4.0 build.
