Here is an update re Firefox 5 and upwards for fans:-
"Mozilla has further detailed its new development model for Firefox. The current draft says Firefox 5 will arrive on June 21, 2011 and Firefox 6 will be released on August 18, 2011. These dates may change, but they're what the company is currently aiming for. All changes to Firefox source code are initially integrated in the mozilla-central Mercurial repository. At scheduled intervals (typically 6 weeks), the changes are imported from mozilla-central to one of three other channels (larger features and projects are usually initially developed in other repositories which track mozilla-central). In addition to mozilla-central (currently referred to as nightly), there will also be firefox-experimental, firefox-beta, and Firefox (release), each backed by its own Mercurial repository. These names are currently placeholders and Mozilla may still change them."
That's because the changes in the kernel aren't of massive significance. Just small feature adds, bug fixes and security updates.
The distros themselves, which are what comprise a full usable Linux system do undergo number changes. But major number changes usually take at least 1 year, and usually 2 or 3.

I truly expect it to be a 'catch up' game to try and make themselves look like a more mature browser with a higher version number so they can 'compete' with Internet Explorer 9, Opera 11 and Chrome 10/11/12.
Though most will claim Chrome do the same thing, the difference between Chrome and Firefox is Chrome doesn't advertise the version number they are on, on their website. Only way to find out what version you have installed is to find out through "About Chrome".

No problem, they simply go full circle back to Adam Ant 2, or to keep it totally alphabetical, maybe Atomic Age Ape. The problem is with running out of animals, rather than letters.

Given all the howling about the new GUI, I'm not going to bother until the next LTS comes out (reminds me of all the howling about Windows 8 and the "Ribbon").
I only use 10.04 to do things that "everyone" claims are too dangerous to do in Windows.
Regarding the topic at hand, I don't see how they can possibly stick to the announced schedule.

I have lost the count of how many times i've updated my FF in the last 15 months...its ridiculous to see that instead of coming up with something different all they do ""present the old stuff in a new package"" same damn old browser with few (sometimes couple) features...they should try to make it more user friendly as i didn't found the same with FF 4.0 Beta 1,2 & went back to FF 3.6.13 & i'm happy with that....
They should try to make it more light on memory(RAM), more secure, faster & graceful.
