Firefox pages "The connection was reset" but loads thru Google search

For about a month now, since going from my "old" FFv27 to FFv37 and now v38.01, certain sites put up a "The connection was reset" page. But, seconds later if I put the site's URL into Google and then click the obvious first search result the page will load fine. So it's not cookies or AdBlock or (I doubt) something changing in about:config. Reloading the direct non-Google tab/page still gets The connection was reset. I've asked Comcast tech... "since it works thru G search it's not a Comcast problem, no idea except something in your system".

OK so any clues here about why sites will load through a G search link but not on a direct URL?

P.S. about my outdated system specs here, now running your Systeminfo.exe, I'm here on my FF but I loaded my IE11 and then the systeminfo wanted to use my default browser, FF. I'd be unhappy to change that to IE, so I just filled in the page manually as best I could, but also here's an abbreviated Speccy text output:

Now the two most recent problem pages are loading fine - not typed in, btw - without Google. This is after powering down for an hour, give those pesky electrons a rest, dog.:p

Meanwhile, since this has recurred around the web numerous times for me for weeks, I presume the problem will return. So I just archived your DNS-change thread for next time. Thanks Callender! Cannot mark it 'Solved' quite yet.

p.s. love your GEGeek

Well personally I suspect problems with your DNS provider or DNS cache. If the problem continues try that approach. If that doesn't work other options are:

Full removal of Firefox (after backing up your profile, bookmarks and extensions) followed by a fresh FF install.

Checking your SSL settings in both FF and Windows.

I'd suspected maybe it was something like DNS. I didn't know whether to be surprised or not by my ISP's Tech not bothering to mention this angle. Oh well.

Just checked, I've got FF set to use the System proxy for SSL. Just now going to W7 Help on SSL, I'll have to follow up later, busy now, thanks again.
