Firewall Settings in KIS 2012

I have had to alter the firewall setting in KIS 2012 from Public network to Local network in order to get windows media player to work between our two home computers.

Will this compromise the computers security in either computer?

It will. Public is designed not to broadcast SSID/settings, home is not.

From a strictly BSOD perspective I would not use KIS.

Kis doesnt usually require its settings to be changed to work so I suspect something is wrong.

Besides the obvious (using Microsoft Security essentials and win 7 firewall) I am not sure. I suspect Kaspersky would be the best source for information on that issue.
