Just got my first laptop and this is my first time using Windows 7(Home Premium 64-bit).

1. It keeps asking permission on things over and over again. Every time I play this one online game I have installed I have to click to allow. It also makes me do so for java multiple times. How can I make this stop?

2.Also I use the bubbles screen saver, and then all of a sudden I have been noticing that the bubbles lag a bit as they move around. Do you know what could be causing this, I have had this for less than a month so i don't know what would cause slowdown in this area.

3. How do I change the programs that run at start up? It seems like I have a lot of processes on my Task manager?

4.In the control panel I am looking at notification area icons. it allows me to hide some icons but I don't know how to get rid of some of them, including: winamp agent, system tray for TomTom, some weather thing, setup.exe for something I stopped from finishing downloading that won't leave.

Hi Chonen,

1. Permissions, see this: How can I stop win 7 from asking permission to start a certain program all the time!@#!@#@!#__In this case WordPerfect. It didn't do this in the pre-release version.

2. Bubbles, not entirely sure... maybe kill some high-memory usage processes?

3. Startup Programs, see this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1401-startup-programs-change.html

4. Notification, you can usually just right-click on the icon and select "Exit"

Hope that helps!

For the startup programs, the easiest, as well as being otherwise useful, is WinPatrol

The free version does quite a bit including showing most startup programs. You can remove them or set them to start delayed. The paid version lets you install on all your machines for one license. I've used it for many years.
