I just did my first registry scan with ccleaner and wanted someone to see the results and tell me if they are all safe to delete.

With 7, leave registry alone. You do not need to touch registry. Untick everything in ccleanr that relates to registry and you will be much happier. Just trust me on this one.
When all the others come here and disagree, I repeat trust me on this one.

Ok, so just don't do any scan at all on windows 7? Even after I get rid of all the bloatware?

This scan is coming from my xp laptop. Are those Ok to delete? Are they safe?

Also, I have other XP laptops in the house and am wanting to maybe not use my system mechanic as I think that is a huge part of my issues and want to know what I need to keep them safe? I want something to run in real time for spyware as well as running malware bytes for scans. What virus is best for xp?

Can I delete everything the ccleaner finds when it comes to the temp internet files, cookies, history etc?

By the way, If I don't want to have to log in to a site everytime, what is it that I DON'T want to delete? Is that cookies, or just the active log in check box? I am using fire fox.

This is what I have
No registry
and I have the cookies that I want in the saved column, right.

After all the bloatware, do a defrag and chkdsk.

For vista and Seven. No reg cleaners, mechanic tune up etc.
Just do this
http://www.sevenforums.com/performa...uggestions-proper-maintenance.html#post764471

Use Microsoft Security Essentials for all windows
Download and use Malwarebytes weekly. These are all free
Use the Windows Firewall.

System Temorary files affects cookies, make sure that you have cookies in the right column if you want them saved

Cookies remembers passwords etc.

I just installed Ccleaner, but it's not in my programs under the start menu? Where is it?

What should my security settings be for firefox?

Also, I have system mechanic 10 (or whatever the latest is) and want to know if I should put it on my new laptop, windows 7 (christmas present)? I have been reading the forums and have seen a lot about registry cleaners and suggesting NOT to use them which is what I use system mechanic for a lot. I also use it for a system shield but it's not always been the best. I think I am having issues from using it now that I have read all of the wisdom that this forums has.

If I were to NOT use system mechanic, what would I need to keep my computer safe? I want something that runs in real time to prevent malware/spyware.

Also, when talking about the revo program, is that the free version or do you NEED the full version? I just do the basic minimal install/uninstall.

Give me the perfect combination ;-)

Welcome to SF!

Keep the Cookies for sites that you want your browser to "remember", (ie, site-specific Log-ins, settings, etc.)
The latest version of CCleaner has a new option to backup this list.

richc46 is certainly right about the Registry Cleaner- any registry cleaner; they can cause a lot of problems for you- especially if you don't have a good working knowledge of its ins and outs.
Just take a look at all those so-called "unused" file extensions that it's offering to 'clean'; you get rid of them and you're going to have a real mess on your hands. Sure, some of them may not be currently associated with programs on your system, but many of them are.

Windows 7 runs just fine, just the way it is. With earlier versions of Windows a certain amount of Tweaking may have nudged the responsiveness of those OS's a little bit, but I haven't found any real-world speed benefit from messing around with 7.

"If it works, don't fix it." :)

Ok, so if some malware was about to attack me, a box would pop up or something to prevent it and tell me?

I have used system mechanic for the past 5 years or so but would like to stop using it. But I need to feel secure in what I am going to use. Is the MSE located in the program files? I won't get my new laptop until the morning ;-)

Stop with the mechanic, in general they cause problems. NOt picking on mechanic in particular
If you encounter a virus, you will be warned. Still run a scan once a week, things get by, with any AV.

See my above post I gave you the download link for Essentsials
