FIrst time ever using Windows 7 Home Premium

So I just started a new job today, and received a new Dell laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. This is a small startup that does not have a domain yet, but I found something odd....I can't get it to require a password upon logon.

I used netplwiz.exe to access user accounts and checked the box "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."

I've tried rebooting, unchecking, the rechecking, etc and still the same problem. When it boots up I can either click on my username or the admin user name and it just logs me in without ever asking for a password. Any ideas?

If you go back into netplwiz.exe, is the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" box still checked?

Have you given your account a password yet?

It's misleading. What it means is the user with a password protected account must enter both the user name and password instead of just clicking the icon and entering the password. Have any passwords been assigned?

Did you assign a password to those accounts? Blank passwords wont prompt for a password.

LOL, thanks for the replies everyone! I thought I had assigned passwords, but to make sure I just went through and reassigned to both my account and my administrator account and VOILA problem solved. I feel kinda silly now

You will feel really silly if you forget the password.
I recommend jotting it down and storing it in a safe place.

Why should you be different?

Create a Password Reset disc/flash drive. Then when you forget it, it's easy to recover

Click Start, type password reset and press Enter.
