Hello Sevens

I recently started fixing a couple of computers for my stepsister and among them is a Mini-Laptop which has no DVD Drive. Previously I had fixed other Minis with USB Windows, but this time after following all of these steps: Install Windows 7 From USB Drive/Pen Drive it doesn't seem to boot and yes I changed the BIOS to boot from USB first.

I have an 8GB Kingston - Data Traveler Vault Privacy Flash Drive, also in My Computer the Flash Drive shows the Windows 7 icon, but first option is Open not Install which leads me to believe it is something wrong with the bootsect, but Command Prompt said it was successful.

Boot the flash stick using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key - it may be listed under HD's.

Sometimes you have to try another method or two to get it to boot. The one I use which always works for me is UltraISO trial version: On File tab Open ISO, then on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write.

Another easy method is Win2Flash: YouTube - How to install Windows 7 from USB (WinToFlash)

Thanks, but still it will not boot. I am trying to see if I can enable USB FDD, but I have no idea how to open Advanced BIOS in HP Mini 110 BIOS version F.19 any help?

Usually you will see what key to press to enter either Setup or BIOS at boot. It varies with each computer slightly though, but usually it's the Delete (DEL) key that you keep tapping at boot to enter BIOS.

I understand that, but when I go into BIOS there is only the ability to change boot priorities and apparently Advanced BIOS is hidden, so I want to find out how to open them to see if USB FDD is enabled.

Ery,

Oops, what I meant was that the ISO I make with PowerISO out of Windows 7 disk doesn't allow me to use it and says invalid.

By the way, I tried to boot the USB from my Desktop and it didn't work which means that the USB is not configured properly? But, I used those tools and stuff to configure for me?

What type of Windows 7 installation disc do you have?

It will need to be a retail copy of Windows 7, and not a OEM factory recovery type installation DVD that may come with a purchased computer system.

You can change the boot priority to have the USB drive listed first. Be sure to see the WARNING box at the top of the tutorial below though in case you have that issue.

...........Oops, what I meant was that the ISO I make with PowerISO out of Windows 7 disk doesn't allow me to use it and says invalid.....

The simple and task-specific tool to make ISOs of CDs/DVDs/BDs (non copy-protected data discs, audio and video discs) and write ISOs to CD/DVD/BD in Windows 7 is ISO Recorder. Download it from here and make the ISO of your Windows 7 DVD. No need for any other Power ISO, Ultra ISO, Magic ISO , Nero, Roxio or any other burning software. It is one tool (Power Toy) which everyone should have on his Windows 7 machine. Once you use it, you will love its simplicity and wouldn't look elsewhere.

OP wants to extract the ISO to write to flash stick. The tool I use to extract the ISO from disk is ImgBurn. Once you have the intact ISO file, write it to the flash stick using any of the methods offered earlier. I use UltraISO trial because it's the only one which never fails for me.

MS own tool is very picky about the ISO it will write to stick or DVD. I think it has to be freshly downloaded from their site to pass its scrutiny.

^ True, the MS tool is very picky about ISO. So how one creates the ISO becomes a significant factor.

I had used ISO Recorder to create the ISO image and had used the MS tool to create the bootable pendrive with that ISO image. Had installed Windows 7 Home Premium successfully on two machines. No problems.

Hence my recommendation to try out ISO Recorder. I am sure that both may like each other.:) That apart, ISO Recorder is a simple elegant tool to create and write ISO images of CD/DVD/BDs using native Windows 7 capability. If I am not wrong, I may say that ISO Recorder simply acts as a front-end to harness the built-in Windows 7 capability.

Whatever, I simply love it and use it always to create and write ISO images of non-copy protected CD/DVD/BDs.(My first BD ISO experience is documented elsewhere in this forum. As indicated therein, I have also played the BD ISO. Absolutely fine proving its integrity)

Hey guys thanks for the responses.

Apparently it was a problem with my 8GB USB being too secure and having passwords which made the USB not start in the boot screen without that password you can't insert.
