Flickering display and windows kernel mode driver prob

Hi.
I've got some minor problems but still I find them quite annoying.
First:
When I'm running Win 7 my display is flickering. It just looks like bad reception on a TV station. When it gets too bad the display turns blak and after a second everything is fine and it starts all over again.

Second:
After a while Windows states that there is a problem with the Nvidia windows kernel mode driver, version 186.81 and that it has been restored. (This info is given after the screen turns black).

I think that there is a connection between those two problems but I don't know how to solve it.

I've got a nVidia Geforce 9650m GT grafics card and after I installed win 7 downloaded and installed the driver.

It is even worse when aero is running.
In Vista everything was fine.

same

I have the same problem: my drivers stop working every minutes. I have then 50% chance they recover, or not (need to reboot).
I noticed bugs are reduced in 186.31 (every 5 minutes), but still here. Please help.

I have a 9650M GT.
I just formated my computer but nothing's changed.

you guys have laptops right? I have an Acer 5920g with a 8600M gt and also have the flickering problem ( only on laptop monitor not on external) the best results I got with the 186.13 driver this is the one with at least flickering (its still there but not that massive)

Some guys claim to fixed that with the new dox driver ( powermizer disabled)
or by disabling powermizer in the registry

you find more @ NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com

with the 186.13 my aero performance dropped from 4.9 to 4.8 and in CSS fps from 210fps to 140fps but the screen has less flickering.
in fact while in game there is no flicker only on desktop.

If you guys find any solution let me know.

I use a Magnum.
the problem is, that the actual drivers have way more screenflicker as the old ones
tried several 190.xx and 180.xx drivers
the 190.xx series were way worse than the 186.13

Im done editing my specs.
I formated my laptop back to Vista, waiting for new drivers. I installed w7 on my non-laptop computer and there is no problem. I have friends having some problems too with w7 and their laptop: looks like the same problem (nvidia drivers) , but not occuring every minute; just when playing counter-strike source.

Maybe the solution is on this website:
nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered.

but as I switched back to vista, I can't test right now.

At this time, I will wait for new drivers.

As I said. I updated my nvidia driver too.
But I found the problem. On my laptop the grafics card was up to date but the VGA driver was still missing. Even though i checked it on the nvidia page there was never a message to install a new vga driver.

After the installation everything was fine.
maybe try this one out.

solved

had the same problem, but not with resolution but rather with the driver.
T42p, 1GB, ATI mobility FireGL T2e.
with the generic driver all was fine, even on 1400X1050, no flicker at all but no acceleration what so ever (no open gl, no direct 3d or draw).
whenever i installed the FireGL driver - flickers...i tried like 20 different vers.
i installed powerstrip, which detected the Vcard, asked for a restart and that was it. FireGL driver installed, full Acceleration and NO flicker (at last)
i did not mess with any option in powerstrip, just worked.

hope it helps.

After searching for a long time for the fix for this, I think I finally have it:

1. Assuming this is a notebook, and you're trying to run Win7 64-bit, download the VISTA (yes, VISTA) 64-bit driver from your notebook manufacturer. You may be able to download it from nVidia directly, I haven't tried that.

2. Uninstall whatever nVidia driver is currently installed.

3. Reboot into safemode

4. Install the Vista driver you downloaded

5. Reboot and enjoy! I'm running about 5 hours stable with no flickering!

solution... no more Display driver NVIDIA etc...

Ok guys, i fixed the problem... patched it at least...

I had the same problem (different model same story... as everyone else) Nvidia and Windows 7 64 (read some problems with 32 too) don't get along too well.... i tried all solutions i found over the web, nothing worked.. crash can be caused by just breathing or blinking!!! (very frustrating)

Here is how i fixed it, i desactivated all windows visual goodies & stuff...

Right click on my computer, go to property, then in left margin select: advanced system settings, third tab, called "Advanced" First option : Performance click on "settings", select "adjust for performance" that will uncheck everything, then you can keep the 3th and 4th from the end checked (smooth edges on screen fonts & smooth-scroll list box, if you want the webpages text to look the way they should.. quite essential to keep the font thing..)

my system became stable after that, no more video card crash, no more Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version (whichever i tried) stopped responding and has successfully recovered

VERY STABLE, and very simple... looks like win98 but functionnality are fully there...

When you see it's working well & stable, add options, one at a time... (i would recommand the useful options you really miss, not the estetic that looked good) i added "show thumbnails instead of icons" and it's still stable... that way (one at time), if it become unstable or start over again, you know wich one to uncheck...
it works for now, and let's hope Nvidia will release new drivers that actually works soon,...

hope this post will help other poor customers of Nvidia to stop those frustrating msgs... i figured i seen so many posts with that problems it was worth to post actually worked...

have a good day all...

Flickering Display

Hey guys, just incase someone comes across this problem. Update the driver, newer versions do flicker more, but this is due to static build up in the motherboard. Try this, power down. Unplug the power cord and take out your battery. Hold down the power button for 60 seconds. This will drain any left over power and release the static. Put the battery back in, plug in the power cord, and start the computer back up. I did this, and I have not had a problem since. Good luck.
