I installed McAfee's latest Beta suite thing last night. Now whenever I am navigating through my files and open a folder, a NEW WINDOW pops up and the old one stays there. It's very annoying. I tried toggling the "Open folders in new window" option in Folder Options but it did nothing. Please help me before I drop kick my computer out the window! Thanks.

Hi,

It sounds like you need to change McAfee for something that works better. I know it's beta but i would go for Avast as it seems to be the big choice for most of the people on this site.

ran into this problem today. corrupt registry I believe....

running Windows 7 64 bit 7100.

the fix was to shell into cmd and run sfc /scannow....

hit start
type cmd
right click cmd and run as admin
at the shell prompt type...
sfc /scannow

that fixed my corrupt files...

faulty HD on its way out I think.

A virus? hmm, id just uninstall McAfee, install another AV,(Use Orbital Shark's link to help you decide ) (ty OS ;)) and run a scan, and a SFC /scannnow, as Kwhy said, just to be completely sure your in working order.

U can also Locate the Default value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell Type NONE in the File data box, click OK, and exit the registry editor.

Its definitely a virus, try using "Eset NOD32 V4 or KAV 2010" scan it first & check if its working. Then try some antispware/antimalwares like "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware", a total protection for your PC. You don't have to do any registry editing or scanning, will fix this all automatically.

Hi!
Probably you've already solved that or reinstalled the system by now. Anyway, I had the same problem and what did the trick was opening elevated command line - from start menu type "cmd" in the search box, right click on cmd.exe and run as administrator. Once you are in the command prompt type "regsvr32 shell32.dll". You should get confirmation if successful. This will re-register Windows shell library, which is responsible for how windows explorer operates. Remember to restart the system and it folders should open in the same window as you want them to.
