Folders appearing on my desktop

I have been moving the folders My Documents, Downloads, etc off my primary disc and somehow the folders on my D drive have appeared on my desktop. Not shortcuts, they are still on the D drive. If I delete from the desktop they get deleted from the drive as well. If I try to move them from the desktop to the D drive I get told that the source is the same as the destination. I guess that in my uneducated changing of the default folder locations I have clicked on the wrong thing, but I can't seem to find a way of undoing it. I am using Win7 Professional 64 bit.

Welcome, if they are faint, almost shadow like they are hidden folders. This is how you rehide them. From your description they do not sound like the hidden folders, but you can see them and decide.

If that works, it should also work for your other default folders as well. Let me know how it turns out.

Hello Ericinoz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It seems that a mistake may have been made when the user folder(s) was moved and did not get moved properly.



This should help:

• Backup anything that you do not want to lose in the user folders on the desktop to another location.
• Delete all duplicate copies of these user folders.
• Restore the default location of these user folders.
• Restart the computer. You may need to restart a few times before the user folders reappear back in their default C:\Users\(user-name) location.
• When they do, try moving them to your D: drive again.

From what you describe, the most likely explanation is that you also changed your Desktop folder to be "D:\"
therefore your My Documents etc folders are now inside your Desktop folder.

It should be set to C:\Users\Eric\Desktop
(depending on what your user name is)
