Folders in Windows 7

O yeah about my last question, is it me or its not possible to arrange folders or files in any way that you want? you know instead of putting them in order of name or date.
In explorer you have a huge list of file details to choose from but in the end you are stuck sorting or ordering by one of those, like name, date, type, etc. It is not like the desktop where you can put stuff where you want it.

:mad2:

Like one can arrange Icons on the desktop? No, not that I know of. Others have mentioned this before.

Yeah that sort of thing could be done in Vista weird that it can not be done in windows 7  .

I may not be following the question exactly but part of the issue might be that a LIBRARY is not a FOLDER and does not behave the same. Within a Library (a collection of FOLDERS at different locations) the Sort/View Options aplly to the entire Library.

Arranging by Folder basically lists all the Folders included in the Library and the Files in each Folder, sorted by Folder>File Name. Pretty standard.

Arranging by Name sorts ALL Files in ALL of the Library's Folders by Name. You can click on VIEW>Choose Details and select the Folder, Folder Name or Folder Path columns to display each of the Files respective Folders.

So I don't think a Library view can do exactly what you would like. But it could be handy in finding duplicate Filenames in multiple Folders for example.

I hope this helps a little.

Thanks that was the issue that i was having, so i think im not gonna be using libraries.

I also find it annoying that one cannot make each sub folder in a library have a different view setting. Nevertheless, I still find the library feature to be extremely useful because it allows me to see all the folders and files stored under, for example, "Videos," no matter which of several hard drives they are on, and that in itself is a very useful feature to me.

But I have also found it useful to set up direct one click access to certain "real" folders within various libraries on my desktop.
