For Any Thunderbird eMail Users (from Sr. Citizen)

Hello,
Great Forum.
Thanks for all previous help.

Hate to appear dumber than i am now, so will just blame it on my age.

Using Thunderbird 31.6.0 for eMails.
Comcast had me change my Password, and this new one works fine.
But-

Thunderbird now asks me, every time, to give my Password.
Once entered, all is fine
Driving me crazy.

Looked in every menu and tab in Thunderbird I can find, but see no place for entering a Password.
Where is it, exactly, please ?

This belongs in the Browser and Mail forum on this site.

Passwords are found in Tools/Security/Passwords, but that is not what you need: When you are asked to enter a password, click on the entry about keeping the password.

1. Your passwords are, as previously stated, in Tools/Options/Security. You can delete them there, but not modify them. As to why you are telling Tb to save passwords, which are not then saved, I've no idea. When you say that you enter a password, but it is not saved, do you mean that after you enter it and are done, you close Tb, and when you restart the program, the password is not there?

If that is so, first step would be to ascertain that the password you entered is in the password list, then recheck after restarting. If it was there, but is not still there later, try starting Tb in Safe Mode and rerunning the check. Safe Mode is found in Help, "Restart with add-ons disabled."

2. Accounts can certainly be named with email addresses

As Not Myself states - remove any existing passwords via Tools > Options > Security > Passwords > Save Passwords

Then exit Thunderbird and re-launch it. Then use the information in the above link to re-enter your password and save it.

Hello,

Trying to get going again with Thunderbird for my eMails, like I had before,
after getting wiped out by that CTB Locker virus.

Thought I had the right Password marked down in my records.
But it won't accept it.

So, I tried to establish a new Account.

It keeps suggesting, or sending me to, this Gandi.net.
Huh ?

Safe ?
Should i proceed ? Anyway to "just" use Thunderbird, as before ?
Who are they ?

For Any Thunderbird Users: Help Please From Sr. Citizen

Hello,

Have been spending hours on this, and would be most appreciative if anyone can
offer any wisdom on my problem.

I guess I have to admit that at my age now, this "stuff" doesn't seem to get any easier.

Had problems with a virus, which I now think has been eliminated, but Thunderbird
no longer functions.

So, I download a new, clean, installation for it.

Using Thunderbird with Comcast.

Going around the circle with all the settings.

The XFinity page of Comcast shows the majority of the required settings, but not all.

A real big problem is that when I speak with one of their Cust. Rep's, who actually sounded knowledgeable, what they give as settings is not what is on the Comcast page !

Doing a Google Search hasn't helped, as most of the settings that folks were good enough to Post, are several years old.

So, Can anyone please give me the Incoming and Outgoing Server Settings, and Ports that actually work ?
Please make it a full list of all of them.
And, perhaps, a step by step procedure for doing all of this.

Would be most appreciative.

Just want to add three other things that might be useful:

-It looks like I can receive eMails sent by others, but not if I try to send myself a test message.

- A small icon that looks like a lock comes up next to what I think is the Account name.
What is this, please ? Seems like a good thing to eliminate, probably; how ?

- This is interesting. The Cust Rep says I should use my Comcast Password. But for the "old" account
that was recently wiped out, and worked, I am fairly certain that it used a Thunderbird given
Password.
Do I use my Comcast Password ?

That aside, you have failed to give even a scintilla of information that might assist others in solving the problem. Please, give us a step-by-step description of precisely what you do that takes you to the step of your being sent to Gandi.net

What is it that you don't understand in "Please, give us a step-by-step description of precisely what you do that takes you to the step of your being sent to Gandi.net"? Your complete failure to follow instructions leaves me having to guess at what you are doing, so this may not be even close to relevant. From the mozillaZine Knowledge Base:

"The new account wizard is an attempt to make it easier to add an account for most users. However, if your email provider is not listed in the Mozilla ISP database Thunderbird makes very poor guesses for security or authentication settings. If you have problems adding an account press the Advanced Configuration button on the second pane to see and edit the settings it uses. Typically you want to replace auto-detect with "SSL/TLS" under Security and "normal password" under Authentication. If that doesn't help either press the Manual Configuration button or install and use the Add Mail Account Manually add-on."

I don't know if Gandi.net is currently in the database used by the ISP database, is just a poor guess, or other reason. The only listing I found of ISPs is now four years out-of-date.

I use Thunderbird with Comcast, but I don't have a clue why you are getting redirected to the gandi site. However, here is a current list of settings provided by Comcast:
Using Email Client Programs with Comcast Email
Personally, my POP server port is 110, and the outgoing smtp port is 587
The password you need to tell Thunderbird is your Comcast password. That allows TB to access your email from Comast for you.
