Forgotten BIOS Supervisor Passwords

Greetings,

I have forgotten my BIOS password on my Asus N61JQ notebook and I want to recover it without removing the casing, since it is going to void the warranty. How can I reset the BIOS or crack the password? Is there specialized software for this purpose ? Any help is appreciated.

P.S: I am able to boot in Windows. The password protects the BIOS settings.

Thanks for the information. However, since the device is a laptop I am curious if I may run into other issues when I try to remove the BIOS password. I am not able to get the computer serviced or remove the casing, since this will void the warranty. I am looking for a proven software remedy. If anyone had a similar experience please do not hesitate to tell it.

Opening it up likely wouldn't have gotten you anywhere anyway. The BIOS chip in a laptop is different from the ones on desktop motherboards. Clearing the CMOS / reseting the BIOS by removing the battery does not erase the password. It resets just about everything except the passwords. The chip used is an EEPROM or E squared prom. The extra E means its Electronically Erasable. The section of the chip that stores the passwords doesn't loose its data if power is lost like a desktop motherboard does. Its done that way on purpose to make it hard for someone to bypass the password if the laptop is lost or stolen. You have to actually write new data to the chip to change the password. If you can prove ownership, the manufacturer should tell you how to reset it or provide a utility to do it. Thats what I've heard anyway. I don't believe the utilities do any damage, not intensionally anyway. But as the saying goes, use at your own risk.

I installed the password to avoid the access to my BIOS settings. The computer boots but I cannot access the BIOS. My notebook is ASUS N61JQ-JX093V which has Windows 7 64bit Home Premium edition installed.

alphanumeric I learned something thank you. The fact that the bios password is locked in a fashion like that in case the lappy is stole is a good reason not to help get the password.
Rule #6 for this site as I understand it says no help will be given to hack passwords.

Yes you are right. I was trying to help with out saying to much. You really should call the manufacturers tech support line in a situation like this. Proving ownership and getting them to help may be a hassle in itself though. Its easy to say now though, but write the password down and store it somewhere safe. Or use one you won't easily forget. I've seen a lot of people burned by this when buying a used laptop thinking they can easily reset it like you can on a desktop. Even stripping the whole thing down looking for the jumper and removing the CMOS battery, only to find out after putting it all back together, that it didn't work. For all intensive purposes you need to know the password to change the password.
