Problem: in Windows 7 the auto format option does not appear when a blank DVD is placed in the drive
Additional diagnostic info:
- When I place a blank disk into the drive a disk icon appears attached to the cursor which goes off and on for a few seconds but nothing appears on screen
- The Drive (actually a BD-RE drive) is present explorer
- The drive is listed as working properly in Device Manager
- I can read already formatted DVD disks
- I can format a DVD drive using the windowed command prompt! (this is a workaround, but too complex for my wife's computer)
- There is no format option available on right clicking the BD-RE drive with a blank disc
- Autoplay is set to "Ask me every time" for blank CDs, DVDs & BDs
- SystemFileCheck SFC has been run and no errors found
- A complete virus scan with avast found no errors
- A complete scan with Malwarebytes found problematic files which have been quarantined
- No drive errors were found using 'checking the drive for errors' (chkdsk) using C:-> properties>tools
- I have attempted to complete all updates, but failed with 8 despite deleting the ondisk cache...errors noted 80073712 8007371B
- adding and properly ejecting a usb drive did not change behavior (suggested in this forum)
