Hi,

I have an Asus laptop (K53SV) and I would like to reinstall a clean version of Windows 7. However, the laptop came with Windows preinstalled, so I didn't get any disc. I tried the recovery option during booting but that only gave me the option to restore to a certain restore point, which only go back till January whilst I have this laptop 4 months now. Or I could also restore to a recovery image, which I also do not have. Now, how to reinstall my OS?
Thanks!

try this

Restore from the Recovery Partition

  • Start your Netbook and press the F9 key on your keyboard until you see a loading screen.
  • The restoration program prepares the files needed for the operation.
  • A message appears asking if you want to perform the operation. You will lose all files on your machine.
  • Confirm by clicking ?.
  • The restore process is done automatically, without any human intervention.
  • At the end of restoration, the machine will reboot on its own and make configurations.
  • A restart is performed again, and you find yourself on the setup process of Windows, same as the first boot after buying the Netbook.

Good your problem is solved. Always check the OEM's support for your specific model. I didn't do anything different.:)

However, now I have a new problem. I can't activate it because it says my product key is invalid. I tried the one on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop my it didn't work. Then I tried with a product key finder program, it came up with a different key but it didn't work either..

When using the Recovery Partition or OEM's Reinstall disk, the installation should auto-activate and there should be no need for any activation by the User.

After restoring it to the factory condition did Windows ask you to activate?

Run the Recovery again as prescribed by ASUS. When Recovery is complete, go to Computer > System Properties and check whether your Windows is activated.

If it indicates that Windows is not activated, contact ASUS Support for a resolution.

(Your Recovered Windows installation is correctly showing the OEM-SLP key, which will be different from the COA key. If the correct token (MS Certificate) is also present it should check the BIOS for the OEM SLIC and auto-activate. If it doesn't, something is amiss here - either the certificate is not present or your BIOS is corrupted and ASUS Tech Support should be able to guide you to resolve the issue.)

An important note from the ASUS support site on using the Recovery I had referenced earlier:
IMPORTANT!
DO NOT delete the partition named RECOVERY. The Recovery Partition is created at the factory and cannot be restored if deleted. Take your Notebook PC to an authorized ASUS service center if you have problems with the recovery process.

Sorry, I forgot to mention it was about Office 2010, not Windows, that's running fine. I cannot activate Office in any way..
