forward fax as email?

The internet so far says it's not possible. Does anyone have a utility/anything else to allow automatic forwarding of faxes via windows fax & scan?

Are these faxes that you are receiving in paper form that you wish to send to other people?

Hi there
Most Faxes will be in the format of PDF, GIF, JPG, TIFF or PNG.

Just forward these as attachments.

IMO why EVER BOTHER with Faxes any more "Dinosaur - and Expensive Technology" - SCAN and EMAIL seems a much more sensible solution whichever way you cut it. (No Phone charges either --why FAX is even used anymore in cases where Internet is available I can't understand).

Nearly all the FAX machines I've seen in offices these days have a facility to E-MAIL the document to your EMAIL User INBOX (The one you get given to you at Work) - then you can just save the attachment in the format you want (probably PDF / JPG / PNG in an office) and then SEND it onwards.

I do this to send Timesheets to agency

1) Scan Timesheet and send to my own Work (Client) Email inbox - for example [email protected]
2) save the attachment as a JPG / PDF / PNG file
3) email from work with the attachment to [email protected]

you get the idea.

Another get around if you haven't got a scanner

If you've got something like WINFAX (very old program) or Microsoft FAX with an in built Modem (Gosh what's one of those you might say) just FAX to YOUR OWN computer, save the attachment and email.

Hey I appreciate the responses... So here's where I am right now (I should have been way more descriptive): I know how to use windows fax & scan, and regularly forward the faxes I receive via my computer modem as emails to various associates of mine. I dont like having to do it manually after receiving the fax, and was wondering how to automatically have them forwarded as emails to a specific email address, sort of how efax does it.

I only use a fax because the physicians who send me faxes on a regular basis are old school and refuse to use something like office live, and two of them use macs.

Google seems to indicate it is not possible while using windows fax & scan. I was hoping the collective genius here would have a simple solution I currently overlook to make faxes I get somehow get emailed out without the 3 clicks of the mouse it currently takes me.

Why on earth aren't you receiving your faxes through a fax > eMail gateway service, meaning your faxes would only arrive as eMail attachments, making them easier to redirect, and meaning automatic forwarding is possible courtesy of your eMail clients native rules and filters

The reports I get faxed to me are sometimes 50 pages long. It's ridiculously inefficient but has still proven easier than trying to teach a physician how to use the internet. My phone service is only $20 to receive faxes, and my efax account was recently suspended over trying to use it to receive such a volume of pages

Well why not simply change your fax service provider?

You won't get a better answer, and you're not asking anyone 'who doesn't know how to leave the bronze age' to take a leap in technology either...

Bear it in mind, whether you're paying for fax paper or a fax gateway, that you won't find anyone offering this type of gateway free of charge (why should they?!??!)

The alternative is to tell your fax correspondents to get real and use Word/&/email...

I agree using word/email would be a lot better than faxing. I use office live in most every other instance for exchanging the same data with other people. I do not, however use any paper, I just send and receive from windows and then when necessary, email or upload the data for others onto office live.

I guess the response to my initial question is no. There is no way to automate the process of me clicking ''forward as email'' on windows fax & scan.

Facing facts, faxing is a bygone technology... the only commercial organisation that I know of who still seem to rely on it are Paypal - everyone else has seemingly moved on and have faith in eMail, forums, websites and so on etc...

I use Ring Central as my fax number. It comes through as an email w/ pdf attached and there is a tool bar attached to my Outlook which I can fax anything directly from there, or forward by email directly from Outlook. $9.95 a month unlimited and all my faxes are stored. Couldn't live without it.
