Free Native 64-bit programs

HiveLoader 1.1

HiveLoader is a powerful system tool that allows you to load and unload registry hives as well as create new registry hives. If you do not know what a registry hive is then this program is not for you!

Improper modification of your computer's registry could easily break your computer.

If you know what a registry hive is but you are wondering why you would want to load a new registry hive, there are several good reasons to load another registry hive. First, not all registry hives are loaded into the active registry at startup, e.g. the "Default User" hive is not loaded.

Second, you may have multiple copies of Windows installed on the same computer, this allows you to load registry hives from the inactive copy of Windows. Lastly, you can load registry hives from offline registry hives contained in virtual machines or disk images. HiveLoader allows you to load these hives, view and edit these hives, then unload them. All changes are committed to the hive as you make them, you cannot unload the hive and discard the changes you made

I realize I should have paid more attention. Never the less the apps runs on Windows 7 64-bit. Fully compatible. And that's not bad at all.

I changed the title of the thread to include native. Maybe this will help with the constant confusion of 32 bit software that can run in a 64 bit environment and native 64 bit applications. Which this thread is for the latter of the two.

it says firefox 64 doesn't work with 32 plugins how can you find out what plugins are out for firefox 64 (or work), and is it possible to have both firefox 64 and firefox on the computer? (the way it works with i.e.)

I think there are 64bit versions of AdBlock Plus and the Flash Player available out there.

You can use the 32bit and 64bit of Firefox on the same system but avoid to use the same profile. Create a separate profile for each browser version.

great thanks for the tip!

i haven't found a 64bit plug in for ie yet, what makes you think there is one for firefox?

oh ok. i guess i missed the obvious that this is a win7 forum, because the first post not clear that native 64-bit apps got to be officially win7 compatible. i think the BRU site is slow in updating.

anyway if anyone is interested i'm using BRU on win7 x64 without issues.

cheers

No need to be at geek level to see if a program runs native in 64-bit mode. Pull up task manager and look for the programs you're interested in. Programs ending with *32 are 32-bit, 64-bit end with only .exe.

Software companies and forum members sometimes incorrectly state a program runs in 64-bit mode.

"Compatible" = will run in 32-bit mode.

"Native" = 64-bit mode.

I like to check after installation.

Notice in the screen shot how some programs run both 32 and 64 bit.

   Information
This list is for native 64-bit applications. Not to be confused with 32-bit applications that run in a 64-bit OS. Only free software is listed here.

I thought Id start a list of free native 64-bit programs for tasks you use daily, such as cd burning, archiving ,word processing, etc.

Im sure if you use 64-bit version of Windows 7, you would prefer to run native 64-bit applications, so please add your suggestions to this list.

64-bit collection: http://users.csc.calpoly.edu/~bfriesen/software/x64.html
On this page you can download 64-bit versions of many of the Freezerware utilities. Not all programs have been ported to 64-bit as of now. Also, I have not had time to create individual setup programs so for now you can download a single zip file which contains all the 64-bit verions.

7-zip: 7-Zip.org
Achive manager

I was just at the 7-ZIP web site.
It does not claim support for Win 7.

Ive been using 7-zip throughout the whole beta process, it works fine. There is also a 9.0.7 beta of the program.

Add me to group running 7zip on 64-bit with no problems. Throughout heavy usage the last few months it hasn't faltered once. It really does perform as stated.
