Free Windows 7 Upgrade Concern (VOID concern)

My wife's laptop has the Intel 4500HD for graphics. it can handle Sims 3 on her little 14.1" screen, but I wouldn't even both trying anything with faced paced graphics or action, like an FPS.

Like I had said before, the OS isn't what's holding you back. If that is truly what video card you have, then this laptop wasn't purchased with any type of gaming in mind, so it isn't going to fit the bill for you, if a gaming laptop is what you want.

I was talking with the Toshiba tech support people while preparing to reinstall Vista Premium from my own all-versions OEM. They were quite blunt that if I did that it would void the warranty for tech support.

Ah ha! The missing part of the story! You would lose your technical support from Toshiba. Perfectly acceptable, actually, since technical support can't be expected to support an operating system that they did not provide, using drivers that they did not install. If your screen suddenly died, or another piece of hardware failed, you would be covered, since the warranty is still in place.
