Freezes at Boot

There is much more to this story, but right now I would like to know if there is a way to determine why a computer freezes at boot? It will freeze sometimes before the waving logo and sometimes at the waving logo, and the logo is still waving. But I've left it for hours to no avail, so I know it's froze. I pushed the reset button many times but it just won't boot up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks an issue resolved by MS with a patch...worth a try:

Request it directly from MS, here:
Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 stops responding at the "Please wait" screen before you are requested to press Ctrl+ALT+DEL

I can't get to a Safe Boot prompt - it comes up as Repair or Boot Normal - When I press F8 it doesn't come up with any other options.

The hotfix doesn't sound like the problem I'm having.

When I try a repair, it says it has to fix the bcd but it never fixes it, or at least a repair never fixes my problem. I have to delete the partitions (system and active), unhook all my other drives but the one I'm installing on. Then go into install, load up my JMicron driver, then install. After the install, I can get into the OS, but the last couple of times once it freezes within the OS or I reboot, it freezes when booting up and it won't boot up again.

I have never gotten it to install with my drives hooked up - I get the message that it can't install on this drive, for every drive.

I got it to come up with the extended menu. When I try for Safe Boot it either reboots after a few seconds or it just shows a list of drivers and freezes. I have left it for a long time.

I've tried using software to fix the bcd and the mbr and the partition mbr. Nothing helps.

I don't think it's a drive problem, but I'm going to change drives. Something is corrupting everything or something else is going on.
