Solved Freezes/crashes when watching high resolution video

Random freezes / system lock ups when playing games or watching vids

Exact same problem. I WOULD contact the member but I cannot. I am so frustrated because I tried so much and nothing works. Its not the ram, I am not even sure if its the graphics card anymore. I only freeze instantly when I am watching high resolution videos, lower ones tend to take a few mins to really crash... I think!

I play Battlefield 3 and other games and I rarely have a problem. Sometimes if I alt tab or try to exit the game, click on the window on bottom of the screen it would then crash. I tried different browser but that does not help for youtube. I tried reinstalling the adobe flash stuff that does not do it. I tried running windows media player instead of VLC (which oddly works better but still crashes). I tried removing and putting back in the graphics card, I tried testing ram, I tried reinstalling graphics card drivers (which seems to work for a short while)... I am out of ideas.

I have a windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz
Ram: 16 GB

The graphics card is Geoforce GTX 670




total information from the IBuyPower asshats. If I did not include something important, here it is below. I contacted IBuyPower and I ended up sending it in. They send it back not fixed at all. I do not want help from them anymore and asked what the process of getting a refund is, but I would prefer to get this fixed instead if I can!!!

I did abit more playing around yesterday and flashed my BIOS to the latest version (something I neglected to do) and also had a rummage and found a few different sound drivers running, so disabled the ones I didn't need.

What does he mean by all this exactly? I do not understand and it sounds like a potential solution... What would be the safe steps of doing all this?

Heya, just seen an email pop up from my old thread (thought I'd post in this to save rebumping my old one), unfortunatley my problem never was solved. I also wasn't able to get hold of the other Graphics card to try it out so I'm still getting the random black screens which are incredibly annoying!!

I contacted XFX and they seemed to think it was a driver related issue, however I have tested so many different things with drivers that I'm pretty sure its not the case. My last option before possibly buying a new graphics card is that I have ordered a new seperate sound card. I've seen so many people with similar issues to this on other forums and theres never a difinitive response, but one thing that seems to crop up is a conflict between the onboard sound driver. So by ordering this new card and disabling that, I'm hoping it will cure it! But I'm not that optimistic if I'm honest with you!

Basically what I meant by that reply was that my BIOS wasn't updated to the latest version, I was still running the original. I also had multiple sound devices running which could of possibly caused a confilct, so I just kept what I needed (the RealTek one).

Did you try a different brand of Ram? GSkill seems to be one relationship (but that is it).

My crash seems to no longer crash instantly when on youtube (I do not know why, maybe because I tried closing all sound devices except one), but whenever I click an interface of some kind like clicking skype window it then crashes. This is likely why games rarely crash for me. However watching straight up 1080 videos the computer just crashes instantly. I am planning to talk with IBuyPower's tech support and hopefully find a solution but I am not confident.

Rex lets sort this issue one by one ...

First step you need to really really update your bios.... Your version is 0604.... there has been a major changes is the bios files and upgrade to 2104.... to quote the manufacturer.

*If your BIOS version is 1203 or older: Go to BIOS-Utilities to download and install the BIOS Converter utility before updating the BIOS.

Version 2104

Description P9X79 DELUXE BIOS 2104
1.Improve compatibility with Windows 8 OS.
2.Improve system stability.
3.Enhance compatibility with some USB devices.
4. Fixed Nvidia GTX 680 hang when runing with UEFI driver.

*If your BIOS version is 1203 or older, please install the BIOS Converter first before you update the BIOS. The BIOS Converter is available in the BIOS Utilities.

If you notice point 4... its a fix for the graphics card.

Also do check other drivers like the Marvel SATA drivers as well... they also have update...

Do these first and then let me know if it crashes... so we can move on to the next step...
