Fresh install of Win 7 from original System on SSD

Didn't think it was over a year since I was last here--time passes!
Is it possible to reinstall Win 7 Pro SP1 using the system installed on a 128Gb SSD in a external housing--via USB?
I have a VAIO Notebook, from which I have removed the SSD--the system works fine.
I have replaced the SSD with the original standard HD -- 250Gb. I have wiped this HD--it is now clean. Can I transfer the SSD system to the clean HD now in place---bearing in mind this is NOT a backup copy, but a full system including programs, updates etc.
Will it work--and is there anything I should do preparation wise? I have a USB external housing for the SSD.

You can use the copy function on any decent partition manager. Paragon or Partition Wizard free edition shold be fine.

You have two choices:
- Boot from a USB Flash disk or CD with a program like Paragon or Bootable Partition Manager| MiniTool Partition Wizard Bootable Edition and then make the clone
- Put the SSD back on the laptop and the HDD into the USB case, boot from the SSD and then clone the disk.(Macrium Reflect Free)

Thanks to both SIW2 and Megahertz07,---I had thought about putting the SSD back in and cloning---I already have Macrium Free version--and have used it before.
The reasoning is--I won't have to look for the Drivers---a real pain--. I bought a new Laptop, and hope to sell the VAIO---though it's quite old--a VGN-FZ11S---but works perfectly---got to be worth a 100€ in Germany with English OS.

Macrium is not recognising the External HD Drive! I can't drag partitions to the destination Disk.--Don't recall having this problem previously with cloning. In the destination window it says "no disks available"! The installed Source Drive is shown.
In "Computer" window only Drive "C" and "D" (CD/DVD Drive) are listed---no indication of USB.
The Destination Disk is listed under Disk Drives in Device Manager correctly as Samsung HM250HI USB Device!
Why is Macrium not seeing the Disk Drive??

Problem resolved---A problem with the Macrium Free download- re-downloaded and installed---problem solved!

The System Clone was successful. Laptop now up and running smoothly---though I'm not too sure as regards the Graphics Driver. The integrated Graphics are Nvidia Ge Force 8400M GT, but the Driver from Nvidia doesn't seem to work correctly. I read somewhere that this Driver was altered by Sony---and thus only the Sony version will work properly. I tried both UK an German Sony Support---result--zilch---Sony sucks when it comes to older models. This Laptop --VGN FZ11S Model C3LPDRJ9 SN 28201063-5003555,--- doesn't appear to be listed on Sony anymore. The website isn't exactly user friendly either.
If anyone can point me to the right driver that would be a great help.

Thanks SIW2---took the driver from that FZ11S List---even though it is the same as already installed--except that I used the clean install option--removed all components, then installed all new---maybe some part was corrupted. When I booted this morning Windows had turned the Graphics Controller off --reported problem. Running ok at present, but still think Sony have their own modified driver. We'll see how this goes.
