Fresh windows 7 install on my samsung R710 laptop

Hello everyone,

Got a problem with a fresh install on my laptop like the title says. Normally I can always figure pc related problems myself but this is my second night trying to fix it and I"m about to give up. So my last resort is to create a topic here, hopefully someone can help me out and figures something I haven't tried yet (or make a conclusion my laptop is ****ed).

So here's the situation. Bought this samsung R710 laptop about 2 years ago with vista premium on it. With windows 7 release got a digital legit version through my student program on MSDNAA. Downloaded the image, burned, install went all smooth. So basically I've been cruising on windows 7 professional 32 bit since the release without ANY problem.

Thing is now, computer was getting slow and started to see some malware and spyware so like most people do then, time for fresh windows install! So yesterday I started the process of getting the fresh install. Backing up all my files on my external hdd en found my windows 7 dvd again. So my computer is nearly completely empty, something like 250gb free of the 300gb.

Got the disc in, rebooted my pc in the hope that the installation starts. And here comes the problem, it's getting the disc and i'm getting the screen with windows is loading the files,then the windows is starting logo. Then I see some low resolution big ass mouse appearing on the screen and I"m like, well this is going fine, this is the installation starting like I remember. Well after a few seconds, the laptop just shuts down and just reboots. And this happens really EVERY frikkin time. So basically I'm not getting into the installation of windows 7.

So already tried alot of things, like doing the upgrade instead of the fresh install ( yes I know, windows 7 upgrade to windows 7 but I was just trying everything out). Well this gives the error that I dont have enough harddisk space which is really strange aswell. I tried doing a fresh install through while my pc is turned on in the setup of the disc. This actually went fine, the installation started getting the "windows is copying files" and all untill the point the computer has to restart to finish the installation. Here is where it goes wrong, from the setup on my desktop windows starts installing but when it reboots it just does the same thing again. It wants to enter the installation but it goes into a endless reboot loop.

Well luckily i'm still able to get back into my pc since it's now on some strange dual boot where it says 1 option with "windows setup" and the other with "windows 7"where the latter one gets me back into my pc normally.

I'm really out of ideas, tried nearly everything, from installing random drivers like for my videocard to updating my bios. At this point I don't even mind going back to vista but samsung never gave me a vista disc so I'm basically stuck on this shitty windows 7 installation which I want to get rid of.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would be really grateful, if you want additional information or if I tried something, just ask. Getting really frustrated since I wasted about 10 hours on this -_-.

4,00 gb (2,99gb usable) RAM
Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT

Since you got all your DATA backup, just remove all but one stick of RAM.

Thanks for the reply, will look into right thing in the morning since I don't got any time now anymore. But just one question pops into mind after a quick skim through the thread. So I cleared all my hard disks and what happens if the windows 7 installation still doesn't start and just goes into endless reboot loop? Then my computer will be completely unuseable?

Or is it just if there is absolutely nothing on your pc it must always do the installation? Or am I just reasoning completely illogical now? XD

Hello Cunro, welcome to Seven Forums!


The other similar issue we see, it may be is the install disk got damaged somehow and that is causing issues, if you still have the Windows 7 image you got from the MSDNAA download burn another just to make sure.

Use the free ISO burner at the link below to burn another at a speed of now more than 4x and select to let the program to verify the disk before it finishes.

Anytime you have virus infection you must zero the HD before reinstall using tutorial linked earlier.

Then use MS Security Essentials with Windows Firewall, keep Windows Updates current.

In case the virus got into your BIOS, now is also the time to update your BIOS version if it needs it. It may need to be reflashed again if nothing works to get installed after serious infection..

If BIOS is up to date, try resetting your CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS.URL Then set SATA controller to AHCI in BIOS setup.

Now try wiping the HD and installing with 2gb of RAM.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I'm going to work on it right now and see if I can solve it since there are definitely some things I haven't tried yet here.

It's not my disc though since I already figured out it might be damaged in a year time but both discs (the new and old one) are giving the same thing.

So it's time to clear all my hard drives and fixing my bios!

I had exactly the same boot loop going on with an R710 when I was attempting to install Windows 7 HP x64. I gave up and tried the 32-bit version and that worked, only now I can't use the 4GB of RAM I have installed. I'm trying to get hold of a Vista x64 disk to see if that will install and let me do an upgrade.

If you look at Resource Monitor>Memory tab you'll likely find you're using all of the RAM due to some being apportioned to hardware. For this reason I install 32 bit on 4gb RAM.

I upgraded the firmware from 07SV to 11SV and Win7HP x64 installed! So there's your solution peeps.
