Solved From Vista Ultimate to Win 7 Ultimate

Hello!
I "had" Vista Ultimate 64 installed in my laptop, until I "replaced" it with Win 7 Ultimate 64 via a ISO copy.
All good. However, windows Vista is still in the background and I believe ruling the OS.

In system profile it is Win 7 SP1, in C:/ windows Vista. Disk Management therefore shows Vista.

It was not a clean installation, it was an upgrade.

Can I get win Vista out and make Win 7 the ruler? If so, what would be the correct way without getting into trouble with functionality? Windows old does not exist.

Any instructions would be welcome.

Did you do a Clean Install with Windows 7 with only the desired destination drive hooked up?

I'm sure win vista core is no longer running on your computer.
When you did the upgrade, win 7 was installed over win vista, using some vista drivers and keeping installed programs and data and some files and folder names can have vista names
What "brand" of Win 7 ultimate you have (upgrade, retail or OEM)?

He mentions an Iso copy, so ya he will have to clarify.

But I would think if he clean installs 7 he would need a key.

People throw the word "Upgrade" around pretty loosely, so we`ll have to wait for confirmation.

Yes, I have downloaded an ISO copy and got the key from MS its all working on legally.
Win 7 Ultimate SP1 is named in the system's basic information about my computer
My question is: why is Vista showing in Disk Management instead of Win 7 Ultimate?
Can I do a clean installation with an ISO copy of the program if I clean the whole HDD and create only one partition?

Hi Dersparate,
run this tool,

see if you have this line in it, towards the bottom
Name="OGAAddin.dll" Version="2.0.48.0"

If you do then its an inplace upgrade and you will have to follow the tutorial i posted,
Otherwise just the normal clean install option, both give the 1 user partition and system reserved (100mb)

Sounds to me that someone just named the C: drive "Windows Vista" when Vista was installed.
An upgrade will not change the name.
Just change the name in Computer to what ever you would like.

Torch, the name is Windows 7 Ultimate. It looks like I can follow your advice and do a clean installation of Win7. Thanks

Copter, Vista was pre-installed by whomever set the OS in my computer for retail. Maybe then the C:/ was named then. Nevertheless thanks.

the Name is irrelevant,
(note it also changes the OS type to retail, go figure!!!)

Hey guys!
Before a clean installation I tried to rename the drive (new for me) in my computer drives display and it worked out. The title changed and was no need to format and re-install. Now I have displaying what I was looking for that I believed was a monster with "7 heads".
