Running this then using the outline in Step Two #2 to create and format a partition using diskpart will get you a clean all and a chkdsk /r for the best possible space to install Windows 7 to.

I always use SeaGate's "Disc Wizard Starter Edition." It will write zero's to the entire drive, permanately deleting any previous data. You can download it here: CLICK ME

I have just been reading through the User Manual for this particular program, which I am currently downloading, but I just cannot see any mention of exactly how (or where!) to actually write zero's to the entire drive.

It is probably staring me in the face, but I am blowed if I can see it!

Why don't you use this if you going to the entire Hard Disk Drive as it will not do a single partition.

If you need to do a partition-specific wipe (secure erase) have a look at Option Three of this tutorial at the link below.

Thanks for the quick reply. It is for the whole drive, so I will use that instead of the Seagate program, which didn't even manage to complete its download anyway!
