I bought a used laptop from an online community, and when I received it everything seemed fine, and was working correctly.
However, I wanted to set it back to factory defaults and start "fresh", so that's what I did. The only problem is that something went wrong during the restore.

When it is suppose to start up, the screen will get all the way to the windows logo and then crash back to a black screen saying that windows 7 didn't install properly and i need to restart to continue the updates.... so I do. but it just keeps repeating.

I tried pressing F7 until the menu came up and I tried to start in safe mode, but it still does the same thing before the computer gets to fully restart.

on a side note, please be patient with me, as I am unfamiliar with computer jargon. thanks in advance for whoever takes the time to respond to this.

Hello LadyVi and welcome to Seven Forums.

The two usual methods to restore a computer to factory defaults involve using a set of "recovery" disks or accessing a hidden recovery partition on the computer's hard drive. Depending on which method you used you could try running it again. Perhaps a glitch occurred during the restore. But it's also possible that the disks or partition are damaged or corrupt and just won't work.

One of the Forum experts prepared this tutorial on how to do a clean reinstall on a factory OEM computer.

And this tutorial shows the steps need to clean reinstall Windows 7 on any computer:

thank you very much, I will try to download the windows 7 driver and install it into my laptop when I get home today.

I didn't use discs or anything when I did the restart, as I thought it would only clear files and installed programs...I didn't realize that it would be removing the whole os. Frustrating!

I'll let you know how it goes!

I know from personal experience it can be very frustrating and even intimidating when dealing with computers. There are many skilled people on this Forum who will be more than willing to help you get your computer up and running. If you're not sure about something, ask questions. ;)

Take your time and post back when you can.
